turds

If the ground is hard or cement, clean with a solution of Vinager and Bleach, very unpleasant odor (Chlorine gas).

If it is a sensitive animal, ie wild, you can spray the area with a mixture of 1/3 alcohol mouth wash and 2/3 water, this is very strong to a wild animal or any dog.

I've done both of the above to varying levels of success. House cats don't seem to care about the mouth wash.

Good Luck.

vinegar is actually used as an odor neutralizer, so it'll deter the animal from revisiting the area if it is revisiting due to the smell.

In addition to the chili powder, or whatever it was, wash the area with an enzymatic cleaner. I'm not sure whats available in Japan though

Oh JFC. If it's a cat just set out a trap with a sardine in it. You'll guaranteed catch it then you can take it to the humane society (or local equivalent), the nearest chinese restaurant, or just wring it's neck and throw it in the trash. End of problem.

dig up the dirt and put a lot of pepper and tabasco sauce all over. That way when whatever it is starts to dig, it will iritate them and they will leave.

What about putting a video camera up so you can monitor the area and see what it is.
