Everyone has their own opinion about this... I went FMIC in my 06' STi and i hated every minute of it. Granted I was on a stock turbo but the lag was unbearable. TMIC ftw

what mods do you have? what are your power goals? everyone setup is different and so all you're gonna get is responses based on their cars, not help with yours. it's like me asking if you like what i ate for breakfast. this topic has been covered more times than journey on karaoke night so the info is out there. good rule i've learned is if you wanna go big you need to go big, if you don't then don't.

The stock tmic is efficient enough for a stock turbo, there I just saved you $300. Feel free to thank me with beer

oh **** i just realized this is the hawaii thread. lol. tuning out here is around 500 i think? depends by who and where and what kind of tune. i think its cheaper loading maps on a AP then doing open source.

$500+ for an AP

$0-$200 for Open Source depending if you buy the Tactrix cable.

Tuning for either could be free and up.

AP must be licensed/pro tuner or street tuner. So there is more cost

Open Source all software free not proprietary. With OS you only potentially pay the tuner.

IMO it is waaaaay cheaper to OS. But thats just my two pennies.

Back on topic, TMIC for anything smaller than a 30r in most cases. FMIC for 30r and up. Unless you are a weirdo like me and you have a 35r+ on a TMIC . <------my opinion BTW

Yea larger top mount FTW.

Cheaper, less lag, no real need for tuning, less lag.

I agree with above anything under 30r you can keep a larger top mount.

if you want a fmic for looks then don't let people talk you out of it, but when do you "need" a fmic? I know people that are on 30r's and still on a nice free flowing tmic. I have a 30r with a built engine and a fmic

I have yet to see shortcomings on the stock VF39 with the oem tmic with a solid tune. Throttle response is instant and with tuning you can eliminate any knock.
