In case you haven't heard, the tax increase in the GET has been passed by the legislature. They're saying half a percent in 2007. Oh well such is life, we're still lower than alot of states but I come from a place with no taxes like this and no fed tax... guess I was spoiled before

For me, I want that new rail system since I live on the leeward side of the island and traffic sucks. I don't mind the .5% increase, better than 8.6% in NY.
Delaware is 0% tax. I got my car there then used my Active Duty exemption to get my tags for $30. My dad is friends with the dealer and he gave me a "military discount" that he said he can right off so we got the car for a little over retail. Finally stuck it to the man. To bad it took 20 years.

I live in town, so if it's all going to the new rail system that stinks. Now if some of it went to fix kapiolani blvd, I'm down for that!
the legislature also proposed a $1/hr. raise on the minimum wage over 2 years. This is also a bad idea, simply for the fact that if you raise minimum wage, all the other prices are raised to offset this. It IS POINTLESS, and defeats the purpose of the wage increase. many small businesses have a bottom line, and barely make profits as it stands. This squeezes them out of the market, and it ranges to small family owned restaurants as well as the other retail and small business brick and mortar stores. Many states have raised the minimum wage with little sucess. Everything else just becomes more expensive. Lingle has tried to fight the bill, but people always revive the increase. I remember a few years ago when they wanted to raise the minimum to $10/hr. over 4 years. Thank god they didn't do it. It is a little off-topic, but this will cost all of us in the end.
