After footing the bill to replace my front end and yanking out all my hair, the suby has finally passed recon this morning. Although it just wouldn't be a true Hawaii experience without failing safety too, but I expected that. Just minor things with safety though so I wont complain. My baby will be on the road soon! what was their take on you not having amber reflectors on the tails? I recently bought some jdm tails for my sf5 which are basically the same as GGA and GD (visually) because paying 100+ for stock replacements was ridiculous. they have all the same markings as the stocks (DOT) just minus the amber top lens.

 

if it actually says dot and isn't modified, then you should be ok. my inspector didn't even check my lights

 

It has all the markings just no amber lens like my old GGA

 

Question about safety check, I'm moving back from out of state and currently have partially tinted taillights, am I going to fail safety check with these? Thanks

 

Yes no tinting of any kind is allowed

 

Im going to assume your car is lowered. If so how did you pass recon? I currently have coilovers and my inspector said Subarus in specific cannot pass with coilovers. something about the stock suspension already being stiff or something like that. any help appreciated, mahalo

 

Hey man, yeah I'm sitting on coilovers and I passed because I got the luck of the draw with inspectors. My inspector didn't do a bounce test on my ride. My suggestion is to either take your chances and see if they ignore the bounce as well and switch back to stock if you fail, or start by going stock for the inspection. Whatever you choose let me know how it goes. Good luck!

 

If not with coilovers, will Subarus pass with just lowering springs? Was looking to get my lowered just a bit but good to know about the coilovers before spending all that $$. Thanks!

 

Too my knowledge a Subaru wont even pass a bounce test on stock suspension which has always chapped my ***, but that seems to be the way most auto laws are around here.
