Who has their own domain?

If so what is it and where do you have your email hosted and how much does it cost? I've heard that google offers free domain name email hosting but I'm not able to figure out how to use it.

Wasssup Jon;

Domain Name: www.example.com <---Thats the domain Starts from: $5.00 - $300 (depends what package you pick, ie, monthly, every year, every 2 years, etc.)

Domain Email: jose@example.com <--- Price ranges: ( $9.99 -$49.99) a /Yr.

Domain & Email: Can be purchased from www.godaddy.com but it wont work without the hosting services.( Thats why you need the Hosting)

In order to have an email you must have an active domain name.

But to have the domain active, theres something called (Hosting) yo must pay monthly for the hosting services, (thats what provides you to run online.)

Pice Range: $ 12.99 - $ 120.00 a month

Few places for hosting services: Highly recommended: www.vb-empire.com
or www.hostgator.com

Once you have those 3 you can then set-up the account for emails to: jose@example.com etc, etc.

Thanks for the info. I did purchase a domain already and have it through godaddy.com (reserved and parked through godaddy.com). Google does actually allow you to have domain name email for free as long as you own the domain already. It's not the same as the hosting through godaddy or others but who can go wrong with google hosting your email.

you need to go here: https://www.google.com/a/help/intl/e...tions_spe.html

I used the free standard service which allows you to have up to 100 email addresses @<your_domain> and each box has 6GB and growing per day. Apparently while using google apps you can have a small webpage, calendar and email (including IMAP and POP services) including others... check it out if you didn't already

I'll check out those hosting places but I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with my domains yet or what the sites will be about.

are there any cheaper alternative with competitive pricing and offerings available for website hosting?

I looked at the site hostgator.com and it SEEMS cheap but for two years thats a chunk of change you know?

anyone else got somewhere I can go to host my domain for email and website that includes a fare amount of space that won't break the bank?

http://www.webhostingbluebook.com/ doesn't seem that expensive to me....you just gotta create and manage the site yourself.

I use globat.com, they are good, but sometimes a little on the slow side, I've had to have them move a couple of my sites to different servers, deal going on right now for like 55 a year, hosting, domain, email, 10 subdomains, 1000 gigs of transfer, 1000 gigs of space, nice little deal unless you're planning on having a crazy amount of traffic

I have three domains. I have them registered with www.mydomain.com (about $7 a year IIRC). Until recently, I had the email forwarding to my SBC/Yahoo acct. I also had the URL forward to the Yahoo photo albums for my pics. However, I'm not so keen on Flickr and I also wanted to develop the sites for my wedding later this year, so I started shopping around for hosting services.

I checked out globat, hostgator, lunarpages, go-daddy and a bunch of others. Of all of these, Globat had the best initial deal by about $1 a month. However Lunarpages had by far the fewest complaints so I went with a 2 year subscription to their basic service. This cost $160ish for the 2 years. They provide all the usual stuff including 350GB storeage and 3500GB transfer per month (IIRC). You can host up to 10 domains (again IIRC) out of the space which is pretty useful. I believe globat allows unlimited domains, but I figured 10 was more than adequate for me.

So far everything is working out well. I have transferred all 3 domains across and have been happily uploading content for them. I'm still forwarding email out of the accounts to my Yahoo email, but I should really look further into using the Lunarpages email services directly.

A workmate has just started using go-daddy's hosting, and that is working well for her.
