Who Exactly Are The Powers That Be?
i was kinda(slightly) offended to see my posts blasted down to 11 posts this morning. and to see lurker on my name. it just so happened that i was @ work on tuesday(what salesmen call a "bell) from 9-9...it was slow... i decided to post on i-club so make time fly. apparantly whoever moderates my posts doesn't like my style. so then i ask this... who is in control? and why is it that the hawaii section seems to be the most hostile section of this i-club? accordring to my last recollection hawaii was the ALOHA state. now if i was a punk or something like it i would understand... i understand that in some forums "whoring" is discouraged... but come on... do u seriously think that i would ***** 1500 posts just so i can get an avatar? when i got on this i-club forum it is because i heard awesome things about it...if there are guidelines that the moderator has... then let it be known....it just strikes me odd to see judgement passed on someone so quickly... and all the more in the hawaii section which lately has shown evidence of hostility to new people that don't fit the mold(or likes) of "whoever the powers that be" are.it just kinda feels like a syndicate or mafia type of control. this is not an attempt to discredit or deface anyone...but merely to gain a little more understanding of the moderators viewpoint.

everyone is in the same problem as you. it isn't you. alex just wants more technical posts than meaningless posts that will annoy people or making the forums into a IRC chat room.
thread about post count started a few threads down
alex is the admin. he is a cool guy that supports all of us hawaii guys and we support him.
and if you noticed the "NB: I would like to thank you all. " stickaroony at the top he is a cool guy we support.

The owner of the forum is trying his best to make this into a more technical resource. Forums like this are generally directed at being more technical than OT, but we force it to be a little off kilter because we post OT and technical in our Hawaii forum.
Hawaii and the Bay Area seem to be the majority of the posters and both geographic areas have some really smart folks concerning this brand of car, but we tend to want to communicate with our local folks, which hurt the rest of the forum.
Is he justified in doing what he did? Sure. The forum belongs to him. His actions make or break this forum. If he's successful, then people like me will start posting more in the technical forums. If he's not, there's a potential that he could alienate people away from here.
As far as Hawaiian Aloha on here, I would argue that, give or take, we are much more cordial than many other forums (not to include BAIC. Those guys are very tight, too.) Unfortunately, like most everything, this forum has it's warts. Many of the more frequent posters don't tolerate certain things to be posted on here. That's their prerogative. Of course, it's the prerogative of the poster to post whatever they want...they just have to be prepared to be flamed or to fight back.
Some of the things the HIIC is known to not suffer lightly are cruises, street racing (although, I'd tell you that that's BS. They really just don't like people posting about street racing on here.
) They don't like neon...they don't like Neons. They don't seem to like Civics (but most are appreciative of a Honda that produces a lot of power...they just won't like to admit it.) They don't always say it, but they don't appreciate blatant whoring. Obviously, they don't like trolling (unless it's Raudi. He's made it an art.
...and his car is fast as ****). Probably the biggest thing that's not appreciated is when someone comes on stating opinion or unsubstantiated claims as fact. Also, the forum appreciates improvements and achievements that others make, but not someone who rubs everyone's face in it.
But guess what. No matter what, words on the internet don't hurt anyone. The trick is in either having thin skin or learning the culture (or warts) of this particular forum. Who cares what someone says on here. The only way in which this could create problems is when the talk on here gets transposed to real life.
Honestly, as time goes on and depending on how much you participate with us in real life...in racing or installing or just hanging out; the folks on this forum are supremely nice and helpful and in most cases will go out of their way to help others (so long as others really want help, or they just want someone to do their work for them.)
Last thing, I have a question for everyone. In the big picture, what purpose do high post counts and avatars serve? Why are they so sought out? I know that some may feel like they are less apt to be flamed, but I learned on another site that this is not necessarily the case. On another site, if you post so many times they give you a title like 'tuning newby' or 'frequent tuner'. I posted enough to get the frequent tuner one, and I answered some guy's question incorrectly. I thought I was giving the right answer, but I wasn't. Someone PMd me to let me know, and said 'if you are labeled as a frequent tuner, you should be relied on to give good information'. I know that there are a bazzillion 'frequent tuners' on the internet, but if everyone made sure they were giving a correct answer before they posted, things would probably be a lot simpler. I've been on the HIIC for a long time and I am still a n00b.
That’s my thesis statement and I'm sticking to it.

hehe
damn Pat, ... how long did it take you to post that!?
Pat pretty much hit the nail on the head. The post count thing was pretty annoying, ... b/c how many times have we seen some new WRX owner post like a mutherfu(ker to get his post count up?
maybe someday one of the "original i-clubber's" of HIIC will write some kind of timeline, or an HIIC autobiography.
Now that would be nice.

You know gdogg, things here in HIIC are really nice. There's really a sense of comraderie here, and it sure seems that folks here are handling i-Club's growing pains in a bettah kine way than BAIC. That's not to pilau mouf BAIC, it's just a coupla people there that take things the wrong way, that's all. But issues are issues and BAIC's got'em, sad to say. So don't worry, things are gonna be pono. Just geev'um!
