Where to stay on Maui
Anyone have any suggestions for a nice but economical place to stay on Maui, preferably on the Leeward side?
I was thinking maybe the Royal Lahaina... anyone ever stay there before?

If you're going to stay at the Kaanapali, then yes, Royal Lahaina is the best hotel for the price. Are you going there or are you giving some recommendations for friends? I had a great kamaaina deal when I was over there but even without it, it was much cheaper than other Kaanapali hotels.

Hey Jon, thanks for the info! It's for myself, and it looks like the kama'aina deal is gonna work out too. How much was it for you about, if you don't mind me asking. Thanks!

I haven't been to Maui for a awhile (try 17 years), but I used to stay at the Kamaole Sands in Kihei. They used to have a good Kamaaina deal with room and car back then. I liked the fact that the rooms had a kitchen and the use of a hibachi grill on the grounds. Man I missed grilling Azeka's ribs and Maui hot dogs.

For most hotels, Kamaaina doesn't mean you get a ridiculous deal on hotels. It's more like you get later check out times, food vouchers, etc. Granted, you still get a great deal on room compared to people from outside.
I didn't go for the cheap rooms, but I've heard great things about the under $150 rooms. I went for the suite since it was a special anniversary occasion. Spent about 450/night but those rooms aren't too far from the Venetian Macau suites I stayed at a month ago.
