Where to get a floor jack?
Where to get a floor jack?
Hi I'm new to this forum and to Subarus. Just picked up my STI recently and now I'm looking for a place to get floor jack and jack stands. Is there any place on the island (Oahu) other than the typical places (sears, walmart, etc). I've read some people talking about craftsman blowing out seals etc so I'm just looking to get a decent one that will last. TIA!
There's like 3 Costcos.
The deal with the Sears Jacks (I used to work there for 4 years in college) is that they were in fact having trouble with reliability. Specifically, the aluminum "racing" jack that has the low clearance and speed pump. Its actually one of THE FEW things that we sold that I had to steer people away from unless they had a lowered car. However, all those guys came back multiple times for replacements (which we did no questions asked with a receipt knowing the jack was not reliable).
My recommendation is to check what kind of warranty comes with whatever jack you get, if it is lifetime or multiple years, pick that one up. If it is only 1-year then just get something for $100 or less...so you won't be as butt-hurt if the seals die.
Also, know the path for your car...if you believe you will drop it pretty low, then don't get a regular jack unless you plan on buying one of the little $20 ones as your helper.
Actually, that might be a nice plan, I got my little 2.5 ton jack because it came in a kit with two 2-ton jack stands at Schucks or Autozone. Then I turned around and got the bigger jack...total cost of $120-$140.
Here's one that I have heard is pretty pimp...but you won't ever catch me paying over $300 for a jack...would rather just get the Craftsman one and keep exchanging it every few months.
