The more f**ked up thing is those quills have some sort of lipid coating on them that will slide the quills deeper and deeper into the open wounds if they are left alone. But the coating also prevents infections so...

they just anesthetized him and pulled all the quills out...only way man...poor guy must be in a lot of pain...
