whatever rim you get, you need at least a +48 offset.
225/45-17 will be fine. If you get a 7" wide rim, it'll be a little "pudgy" though. HERE'S all the info you ever wanted to know about tires.
There are quite a few 'good' tire choices, as always, it's depends on how much you want to spend.
BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD, Falken Azenis, Kumho Ecsta MX or 712, etc, etc, etc. Those are all decent or above.

rims
just got my 18x7.5 rota subzero's with falken azenis 225x40. haven't put them on yet.
i may be selling them as i just put a deposit down on a sti. hopefully i can swing the new ride instead.
that leads to my next question, if you had the chance to get a sti, would you keep it stock or modify it? would think 300hp should be sufficient, but then again, maybe not...

I have the superleggeras on my car. (Farids old 18" rims) I drive pretty carefully but I have heard the horror stories about the rims bending/warping. No problems so far! (Knock on wood)

Like the other guy, I'm running on Prodrive/OZ P1 anthracite, 225/40/18. Ride is a little harsh, and I can feel just about everything from the road, but that's kinda how it felt stock anyway. The 18" look is really, really mean. My dad's rex got 17s, and it just doesn't look as cool as my 18s. I weighed the wheel and tire, and it came in at a hefty 47 pounds! At least I know the wheel is as tough as nails. Get the Potenza S03s. I'm running on those, and they are extremely sticky. Got a good package price from Tirerack, because they're getting rid of their stock. I believe they're all out of anthracite though.
