What do you do in the Military?
E-4 Navy.
Stationed onboard USS Russell, DDG 59. Guided Missile Destroyer. Im a AN/SQS-53C Sonar Technician (STG). My system is a hull-mounted sonar system that I use to acoustically detect and classify submarines from up to 40 nautical miles away. With all gear accounted for in regards to my system, Im responsible for about 2.4 million dollars worth of electronics equipment. I've been onboard for a year and a half now, I PCS August '12, hopefully going back to San Diego to finish out my sea time on another ship, bow out, and go back to school.

O-3/Captain, hopefully very soon to be at least promotable.
Infantryman. Very proud of the fact that I'm Airborne Ranger qualified, however, I'm working in what's called a 'branch immaterial' job (recruiting) that puts me in a sort of holding pattern. What that means is that there are specific jobs I must do in order to 'qualify' myself at each rung on the ladder. I am qualified for the particular rank I am. Once I get promoted, I move on to do a similar job to Staff Sergeant Jess.
Following this job in recruiting, I should head to Ft Gordon, GA and receive training in what's called Career Field 53, or Information Systems Management. My understanding is that it's about 9 months long. Then I have to do some form of what used to be called Command and General Staff College, now called ILE or Intermediate Level Education; either at Ft Gordon or at Ft Leavenworth.
Following that, I should get some job at Division or higher (you've heard of the 101st Airborne Division or the 1st Infantry Division...) Higher means Corps, Army, Theater.... I could even end up as someone's punk at the Pentagon.
Oh yeah, and FWIW, Patrick Olsen outranks me.
Lieutenant Commander, I believe.

Been deployed in the middle of no where and doing tons of training. To be honest I haven't had time but I'll make more of an effort. I'm in Cali for a while admiring all the Prius' and low octane gas.
