Want to buy a digicam
My criteria are:
Gotta be the most bang for the buck, ie inexpensive (hopefully under $200, but as much as $250. I want to buy a 256 memstick which is as much as $99, too) but showing a fully (or mostly) red circle
in consumer reports rating scheme for picture quality.
Gotta be available locally since I don't have a mailing address.
Gotta be either the sony long memory stick or the small ?xg memory stick. I'm probably not being descriptive enough. I know that Canon has some really nice cameras but they use that big memstick. With my newest DVD player/CD burner/mem stick reader, I can utilize the big memsticks, but that would make it so that I've got 3 different types of memsticks I'm using. What a pain in the ***.
Gotta be able to take vid with sound. What I'm hoping for is somethat just saves mpegs to the memstick so that I can just drap them from the stick onto my hard drive.
Small is good but not necessary. Large is not good (like those big Sony cams that have a slot for a 1.44mb disk).
Manual controls would be nice, too, but not necessary. I don't even think I know enough about photography in order to use them.
I might be able to talk Dan into letting me use his shipping address, but then I'd still have to pay extra shipping costs when I can get pretty good prices here locally.
Leading the pack (but still with unknown quality of features):
Hewlett Packard Photosmart 735
Fuji FinePix 3800
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P52 (the DSC-P32 looks pretty good, too)
If I had to have one shipped, this one looks nice Concord Eye-Q 4060AF
Thanks

I use a Sony Cybershot DSC-U40 ( LINK HERE )for a lot of the shots I take. No zoom feature but it takes great, clear close-ups and is perfect for when you're working on the car or for casual shots.

It's very small, but only 2.0 megapixel. Takes vids, but no sound so I guess this won't work for you... doh - altho it's in your price range.
But I did find great deals at Byte-Ware in Kam Shopping Center. I just bought a 128MB Sony mem stick there for $44. The 256's were pretty cheap too. Might be worth a look to see what they have available there.

bump for Bytware (website). That's where i bought my digi-cam. Also, check out dpreview.com for some of the internet's best reviews of digital cameras.

I have the DSC-P32. It has all the features you listed in your post. Great camera, high quality and easy to use. That being said, I'd get the P52, as it has a zoom. the P32 only allows zoom with the lower quality pics.

I bought the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LC33 with 256mb of sd memory.
It's got 9x zoom, optical 3x zoom, 35mm equivalent 35-105, 3.2 Megapix, and a Leica DC lens. All for a little over $300. It was within my 'more than I want to spend, but I really like it' budget.
.
Here's a sample pic. It's huge. http://gpatmac.us/files/PICS/P1000004.JPG (1.1mb)
Here's a couple of sample vids (taken while driving Joeys2k's truck.

Just playing.
