Waipahu Transmission

So i spoke to Waipahu Transmission to do my Torque Converter. They said that it will probably be around 450~500 for the install. Is that to much? Please give me your feedback!

Debating whether or not I should do this since the STI is coming out!

If i get the STI then i won't have to install the torque converter. I could sell it to the other 4EAT owners

Is it really going to be around 32K?

That install price sounds about right. 400 would be a pretty good deal, make sure you get a solid price before you take it anywhere.

I'd expect the STi to go for at Least 32.5k or so, plus tax, title, tags, .... and markup? So you're probably easily looking at over 35k before everything's said and done.

dammit.. i hate these decisions.

Depends on how i feel about the car after the torque converter will determine if i go with the sti or not.

anyone know how much a 2.5 block cost?

Talking

you'll learn that no matter what you drive, there will always be something better, faster, stronger.

btw, what kind of muula do you make to afford that car payment!??

and just any 2.5 block isn't what you're looking for, ... you'd have to build it for it to be of any real use to you, and that is some $$$$.
Maybe Ed can find out sometime later this year how much the new STi block costs, .... who's gonna blow their motor first so we can get an STi block!??!

When you add up the torque converter plus install, the things you plan to do (coilovers, wheels), things you've already done (Stg 4, ebc, etc.), the price difference isn't that much. All those mods MAY bring close to STI level, but what happens when you start modding the STI?

sure, you've spent about as much as an STi, .... but you're not Financing the whole amount! That's a big difference in the long run!

Sean: Very True.

Richie: I'm still deciding on getting the STI but like Sean said eariler if i can get a 2.5 block when parts are available for the STI then it might be cheaper than getting the whole damn thing you know? Ahhh. I'll see!

I agree, there is a big difference between accumulating parts over time and making one big purchase. But if you plan to mod your car HEAVILY ($12K++) and haven't started yet, I think it would make more sense to set aside the money and put it toward the downpayment until the monthly payments are reasonable.

The STI will have a 6MT not a 4EAT. No option for auto either. Not sure if that is a consideration for you besides the $32K+ price tag.

Yeah... i thought about the 6MT and though this is a good time for me to REALLY learn stick. I can drive it but i just hate hills (doesn't everyone?) and the fact that im constantly in traffic. I dont know... hmmm

Jon

so i went to Waipahu Transmission just a little while ago and went to see Carl. I wasn't able to put the car up on the lifts but after looking under the hood he told me that it will cost any from $500~$600 to replace my torque converter...

Do you guys know anywhere else i can go?

I've heard good things about Kalakaua Transmission

I've heard so-so things about Noble's

This wouldn't be such a bad "do it yourself" project if we only had access to a lift. That's the part that makes this project a BEAR (doing it on your back with ATF dripping in your face).
