Get ready to drop a pretty penny if you dont have any hookups on safety check. When I was living on Oahu, I hard a hard time trying to get passed for S/C for my mods. Even when I had my "Connections", I would not share them with other friends for they might get cited/busted if that "Connection" got out. You probably gotta go to the S/C shops thats located in the "boonies" to get "PASSED". Or you can just get Recon if you dont mind the PITA process.

yup it is a pain in the ***. But it's the only way unless you wanna ride dirty all day everyday.

i rode dirty for a year and a half, got pulled over once and i gave the cop the "i just shipped my car here 2 weeks ago" bit and she let me go with some nice info and tips. she was actually really nice and helpful...
im not really up on the latest recon requirements but it doesnt sound like you'll need it. im sure some other guys could chime in with a more concrete you need it or not.
edit: i stays legit now

Well technically trag3dy, you are legal except your suspension modification. Most Police Officers have a good memory about criminal based offense but based on my observation, they are familiar unfamiliar with some portions of the Applicable Recon laws. Obviously the altered Suspension is recon required even though the science behind it does make the car slightly safer based on the situation but thats another story. There's threads here on the Hawaii chapter about recon. Just search for it.

based on your mods, the only recon item is your car being lowered. go get an alignment and make an appointment. i would recommend you going to Island Brake and Alignment and make sure you get a printout. research more about the "dreaded" bounce test and you should be good to go. good luck.

If we modify our car atleast were taking care of it not like the customers that come to our shop and they dont want to change the breaks and I see baby seats in the back WTF!.
as for the BRAKES not being done...pple will either do it themselves or take it to their own mechanics...shops charge too much...

How stiff is the suspension? I vote for recon, too. Most of the recon techs are cool and will usually try to cooperate with you as much as they legally can.
Oh, and just an aside: FYI -- Honolulu County (O'ahu, bascially) is the only county in the state that requires recon. So you can ride dirty all you want on any of the other islands
