Up pipe Insulation?

Howzit,

Just received my up pipe in the mail today! I know that Dean (Mister2) has his up pipe and down pipe ceramic coated. Im to cheap to send my up pipe to Washington to be coated. Anyone else have any ideas? Does the insulation make that big of difference? Will going without it hurt anything? Thanks.

Dan

My up-pipe and downpipe are ceramic coated too.

Hood temperature is the main concern (esp. the uppipe) because the heatshields are gone... it is important to keep the heat in... I heard #3 cylinder is prone to detonation caz the up-pipe is right next to it...

You didn't put the shield back on?

I'm kind of planning on some exhaust wrap for my UP and DP...well when i actually get the DP.

Gonna read up a little more beforehand.

Blake, it's pretty risky to wrap your up-pipe because any junk (oil, coolant, etc.) on that sucka is potential for fire. I don't think the OEM uppipe heatshield fits the aftermarket uppipe either. It's safer to heat wrap the DP however...

Hmmmm....damn you oil!

I thought you have to cut the heatshield to make it all fit?

OK wrap the DP 10-4

Oh yeah, that brings up my other question. I have the hks downpipe, and It is the new one, which I hear is already ceramic coated. Is this true, or am smoking too much batu?

Aslo, is there any place locally that can do the ceramic coating, or do I have to ship it to the Mainland? Sorry so many questions.

Blake, which heatshield are you talking about? I think you mistake the turbo heatshield. Sorry to confuse you, but the OEM downpipe and up pipe are "protected" by sheet metals acting like a heatshield. You can cut the turbo heatshield to fit aftermarket DP however.

Hoppie: HKS DP does not have ceramic coating, it's just "coated" stainless steel... meaning rustproof coating. I think only a handful of companies make ceramically coated DP... I'm not sure if any local shop do ceramic coating...

I just wrapped my up and down. Seemed to work fine. When I removed the down about 1.5 years later, the wrap was still in pretty good shape. It looked like the up was holding up pretty well too.
