Turbo Timer
I know this is probably a weird question, but I now turbo timers allow the engine to run and allow the turbo to spool down in rpm with taking the key out. But is there a gauge or sensor that actually reads turbo rpms to allow you to safely cut your engine off? Just something doesnt sit with me right about leaving my car running while I'm not IN it, I know there is a ground wire to your parking brake, but anyone can still find a way to bypass this. Just food for thought...

Wrong forum,
but the timer isn't there to let the turbo "spin down", but to cool the oil that lubricates the bearing or shaft. If the turbo is really hot, the oil can "coke" (burn). Most of our turbos are water cooled too, so supposedly you don't need a timer. Personally, I use a timer and think it's a good idea to let the turbo and the valvetrain cool down some. Some timers determine the amount of cool down they deem necessary.

my tt will go according to the air/fuel ratio to determine how long to run the car... although it isn't accurate in the reading, it's alright. normally i just manually set the amount of minutes i want it to run.

So is everyone saying I should just get a tt and go away and let the car decide when to turn itself off? Or should I go by what the factory says and just wait 30 seconds before turning it off?

I appreciate all the posts.

if you're worried about someone stealing your car or something, you can wire your alarm to arm with your engine still running.
|
Yeah,
I can arm my alarm with the engine running on the timer.
