Trojan horse advice

Yeah, I'm a dumbass, but let's move on from that.

I opened a webpage and my download accelerator downloaded something called 'speed.exe'. It seems as though there were a buttload of trojan horses involved.

It made it to where I couldn't open IE or Outlook Express. Fortunately, I could open Netscape, so I did some research and downloaded spybot.

Ultimately, I couldn't delete a file call klogini.dll, so I just went to system restore and set it to 21 FEB.

Will system restore actually restore my HD back to that configuration? Is there still a trojan horse or two hidden somewhere on my HD?

Thanks

What antivirus are you using?

go to www.grisoft.com and download the free version of AVG.

Boot your computer in safe mode, and do a full scan.

Using NAV. I actually have a ?subscription to AVG, but I was too lazy to put it on this computer (since Norton already was.)

Alrighty, I'll take your advice.

Thanks

I hate Norton Antivirus for a lot of different reasons. I've never had good luck with it (except for the corporate server/client model). I have never been failed by AVG *knocks on wood*.

The only thing I'm afraid of is how integrated is NAV into my OS? Can I just delete it?

Don't just delete... always uninstall. If you can't there is a manual uninstallation method but norton sucks donkey ***** and it's pretty complex. We have so many problems with users that have it but I won't even get into that.

Yup norton sucks!

As Sykosis said, DO NOT DELETE LIKE THAT, just uninstall it via control panel/ add and remove prog... if it does not work, got to work on the registry and manual delete of Norton left overs...

I like Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy the best.

Best 'Net practices are the key to remaining free of all that crap.
