Top Gear Australia
Top Gear Australia
So I've watched to first two episodes of Top Gear Australia, and other than showing some cars I've NEVER heard of, I'm a little underwhelmed. They've tried to copy the UK version too much. I'm going to give the show the benefit of the doubt and keep watching. The UK version (new series) didn't get good until midway through the second season. Hopefully the Aussie one will eventually get it's own personality...
Just my $0.02. Anybody else's thoughts?

the set even looks exactly the same, and with each of the characters, they tried to replicate their personalities.
main host: older guy, sort of evil humor
younger host: young guy, lots of jokes
3rd guy: quirky weird guy.
i guess they figured if it worked in the UK, it'd work down under. so far its just like watching a ****tier version of the original series. i'll pass.

I totally agree with everything you said. But have you ever watched the first season of the UK Top Gear (new series)? It's pretty crap too. They didn't even start getting a little edgy until the end of the third season. I'm just hoping the Australia one gets a personality of it's own and grows outwards. I don't know anything about the Australian market and I'm curious to learn more. But not if it isn't more entertaining...
Oh yeah, the original had some growing pains. One host didn't even make it (Jason was his name?). And the presenters really diddnt develop the chemistry they displayed till third season, as you said.
Not to mention, the studio audience was really small, unlike today!

I was sorry to hear Leno will not be in he U.S version. I think he would have done a great job. Hopefully Tanner Foust and adam carolla (not crazy about him either) can make up for eric stromer.
Ooh, do you have information on the US one? I don't know anything about it. I agree though that Jay Leno would be simply awesome as a host for that.

All I heard was a pilot was taped here over the summer and that is who was in it.
Jay Leno mentioned a while back (I think on his show?) that he turned it down because he did not think the U.S version would allow him to fairly criticise the cars. So it will be interesting to see if it is as informative as the Biritish one.
