Tokyo Breakfast
Amusing. Someone probably posted it last week or last year or last millenia. But still funny.

Note: the list you'll see are all just mirrors of the same d/l. Also, I don't condone the use of that 'word', but it does make for an interesting juxtapose.

We belong to a secret society of internet scribes whose sole domain is to disseminate whimsical and heart-warming, and yes sometime just plain flights of fancy through the tangled skein of the world wide web.
It's like the Illuminati, only cooler.

I like Beverly Cleary and Danielle Steele.
Just kidding.
I read everything that's put in front of me. Magazines, newspapers, 'net news, fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi/fantasy, etc. etc...
NEED MORE DATA.

The word is not in my lexicon.
In my opinion, though, I think that it's only offensive when white people say it.
In an attempt to over-analyze humor (which is sorta counterproductive, wouldn't you say?), although asian-americans are every bit as wickered into our society as anglo-, african-, hispanic-.... for whatever reason it would seem that asian-americans have been slower to wicker into our culture.
In popular culture, up until the 1980's, Bruce Lee was the ONLY figure that non-asian-american's(2 hyphens) knew (and yeah, Don Ho). It is easy to assume what perception non-asian-american's had of asian americans; karate and all. (Jeet kun do as we would later come to find out) Later came the Margaret Cho television show, Jackie Chan, Chong-Li, and of course Battle of the Planets.
The comedy of that bit comes in the juxtaposition of 2 cultures that don't seem to parallel each other at all (but upon further study, it could be argued that the asian-american experience is not very far removed from that of the african-american. While their treatment might not have been as in-humane and unjust, the lack of respect and descrimination were there just the same).
Nowadays, it would seem as if the asian-american and african-american cultures are as polar as could be. There are many signs where each are becoming homogenized (The last Dragon circa 1980's is a good example) or sort of growing towards each other by adopting parts of each other's culture and making it their own.
While I would have no way of providing proof, and any evidence I might come up with would more than likely be pretty subjective; I would argue that the author of that skit was assuming that asian people saying that word would be much more funny and less caustic than if a caucasian were to be the key players. I don't think it would be a damn bit funny then.
Anyhow, your two posts show me that it was a mistake in posting that film clip. Someone will always wonder pre-emptively if something is biggotted, rightfully so, and so it's never safe to walk that fine line.

BTW, most of the people in that video were NOT native Japanese speakers.
The "Dad" was, and perhaps the mother - but the rest were either CBJ or ABJ (Canadian Born Japanese or American Born Japanese). Sansei, maybe Nisei...
The news channel at the beginning of the clip is in CHINESE, and most of the product labels you see on screen are written in Katakana (the original packaging was obscured with a new label) and I think there was even one in Korean characters.
My point is, this isn't from an "Asian" source. It's either from Canada or America so it may be more offensive than you guys think.
That being said, I thought it was funnier than ****.
And if you have been to Japan recently - you would know that everyone there (just like in here!) wants to be ethnic now anyway.
