For relatively cheap but good grip and overall performance, I've liked the dunlop direzza dz101 and the bfg g-force sport tires.
For max performance, I've heard great things about the dunlop direzza z1 star specs.

Costco has a sale due to their coupon book on BFGoodrich and Michellin tires.
I always shop on Tirerack and buy from them and use their reviews. Eurosport does my mounting...
I had BFGoodridge G-Sports,..ok,..not great
Had Bridgestone RE780s,..nice and pretty good,.
Cheap and light tires are Kumho MX's,..soft on the sidewall though but very good, just inflate a few psi than usual.
Lastly running some Falken 452s right now that I really like due to grip, sidewall stiffness and traction on my subie and other car, but not available on TireRack..

I'm liking my Falken RT-615s
Get the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R if you can get them.
I've had MXs and they're a good daily tire w/decent dry grip, but like Kevin said, soft sidewalls require some extra psi. I had mine inflated to 45 psi.
Hankook RS2 Z212 are pretty good as well.
I'm also hearing great reviews about the Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Z1 tires. I'm leaning towards those for my next set. However, I'm limited to only one size for my 15" wheels.

Come to think of it, what is it you look for in a tire? Being a daily, you'd probably want some decent treadwear, huh? Those mentioned above are sticky, but you'll wear them out quicker than you'd like.
Get a set of BFG KDW2s. One of the better performing tires with a treadwear rating better than all those mentioned above. They're good in the wet, and look pretty.

The BFG Gforce Sports are actually treadwear of 300+...so they last a long time. I am running them to my chagrin because I would rather be on:
Bridgestone RE7xx (whatever the current number is)
Bridgestone RE-11R
Dunlop Star Spec
Those are the only ones I would buy in Hawaii. DO NOT buy all-seasons in HI unless you're going to the top of the volcanoes.

Ling Long or Nankang tires FTW!!
J/K,I agree with a lot of the suggestions here.
I actually ran a Federal 595 RS in that exact size,I thought for a relatively affordable tire, these provided a good combination of grip & durability.
I think Federal has improved this tire for more grip in the form of an RS-R tire, still a streetable tire, but with a nod toward the performance aspect.
I personally love BFG's in any of the g-force line up!!

I got federals too. And yes they are CHEAP and not too bad, I don't push my car too hard as I have a hard time trusting the tires. But once I'm ready for new tires it'll come down to the star specs or 615's.
