summer tire questions
summer tire questions
alright heres the deal, i bought a second set of 05 bbs wheels for my original plan of putting summer tires on them to autocross on. now what im thinking is taking my good all seasons off my gold set and putting the summer tires on them, put the all seasons on the silver set and sell them.
now my question is it alright to ride the summer set all year long? yea it definitely doesnt snow here but what im worried about is the rain specs. my buddy back home said the star specs werent the best in standing water. and it does rain and flood on the streets here.
second question is would swapping the tirees be worth it? would trying to sell the silver bbs's with the good all seasons be easy or a hard sale?
what im looking at getting is star specs in the size 255/40. how would people feel about daily driver them?
thanks for the input. if anyone is interested about the all seasons, theyre bridgestone potenza re970. Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position

Yes, summer tires are ok for rain, maybe not so much for floods though.
As for the second question, they are 05 sti bbs, so they will be a bit more difficult to sell. The 5x114.3 pattern isn't exactly desired for the STi BBS. If they were 5x100 it would be a different story. Just throw your all seasons on your Gold BBS and run them until they are done or store them and buy summer tires for autoX and all season for when it rains/floods.

All seasons are completely pointless out here. Get good summers and don't drive like an a$$hat when there's 4 inches of standing water in the road and you'll be fine. Regarding selling, used tires are about worthless. Drive what you have till they're used up and get a nice set of high performance skins. A second set of wheels is for when you want to run full race rubber (or DOT slicks) on one set and DD the HP summers on the other set.

the all seasons are already on the goldies. running them until they are done will be awhile, considering i just bought them in november. would selling the all seasons be easy to sell here though if i were to do that?

You can trade me my Miro stp-1 for your Goldie's think they are like 18x9.5 width. Tires are still good with medium camber wear. Stretched. I'll take what ever tires are on there.
Wait I think I just got confused. Your rocking 5x114 on both right

bah, people are running 275's on 6" rims. not ideal, it would work. 255s on an 8 makes for a softer sidewall, and mushy turn in, but it's ok for daily driving. in fact, i like having the bubble tires on daily driving tires, keeps me from curbing the rims.
id love them if theyd fit lol but yes, theyre 114.3.
Not very good research. It won't handle as well as 245s (which are already very wide for an 8" wheel, which is why 235 is the preferred size) due to loose sidewalls and you won't have any manufacturer warranty on the tire should anything happen to them.

mount the star specs to the wheels you wanna run and sell the 2nd set of wheels and tires separately. if someone wants to package them then sell them both and you won't eat the remount charges. it will probably be easier to sell separately since the bolt pattern would limit your buyers. summer tires are fine to run here but like others have said take it easy until you know how they will react.
