Suggestions on tires
I had star specs, well they still on the rims but krang has them now, on my car. While they probably are hella good tires I didn't use them to their full potential at all. I'm too low to be doing turns too fast so I couldn't test the tires. I did like the fact that they were quieter then the federals I had previously. Joey says they're loud, but like Shaggy I wouldn't be able to tell you as my exhaust was loud so it drowned out the sound of the tires. I only bought star specs because I worked at goodyear and got 4 for under $500. As for comfort I felt every damn crack, bump, etc. in the road. Good for racing, not the best feeling for DD.
I believe the tires I have now are the potenzas joey mentioned, the re760's. Perfectly fine for what I need out of it. I'm noticing a bit of noise now though seeing as I switched to a really quiet exhaust now. Still way quieter than the federals though. I don't mind as my radio is normally turned up anyway. And they're way more forgiving then the star specs for DD. I wouldn't hesitate to put another set on my rims once these go bad.

Could you fit a 245/40? There are much more options in that size and not much more cost. If you can fit it, Tirerack sells the Evo V12's in a 245/40 for $420 + shipping. $520 cheaper than the RE-11's. $248 cheaper than the Star Specs. $180 cheaper than the RE-760's. Great reviews on most every forum I visit and pretty darn affordable too. Just sayin'

I've had Falken Azenis, Dunlop Direzza Star Specs, Bridgestone RE-11 and RE-01R for good tires, and I loved em all... Azenis suck in the rain though, the rest were awesome.
For pure "street" tires, I've had a ton, but I guess those 595 tires were excellent for their price point. Or Kumho ASX tires.
Tirerack is my go to place, even with shipping, it beats anywhere on the island. Unless you can get your tire at costco, then go there.

I've also run the Kumho ASX's and they're good tires as well. Fairly inexpensive, good tread wear, and decent in the rain. I personally don't care for the SS595's (Super streets or whatever they're called). I've run them or bought wheels that had them on, and they're too noisy IMO. I've heard great things about the Evo 595's though.

you only need to change 2 tires at a time not all 4 as long as the other tires still have a decent amount of thread left

Crap...I was just gonna change the two front but my left rear popped and my front driver side is bad...I was just gonna run the stocks until my tax return comes in...soon...but damn wish this went out after the tune..lol! But was my fault for not getting it aligned right away...
Heard abouta local guy who had issues with his diff with two tires that were to drammatically diff from other two. Kept learching back and forth with ecu trying to compensate. May sure depth is really not a huge difference keeping in mind difference in brand sizes.
+1 for Conti DWS and Pirelli P-zeros. Were not running DD beaters so it doesnt help getting cheap tires. Used to run Toyo T1Rs but bang for your buck with longevity and perf were the P-zeros and DWS. Seem like more but one set as opposed to two sets. Tirerack +1

Ok I definitely need a new set...what's good for our rainy and pot hole infested state? And any place u would recommend besides Costco(nothing against them) just don't wanna limit my options.. I'm running 235/17/40 90y...Yokohama s drive now and one went out today...can't get the same tire here only at tirerack...don't think it's worth it to ship one tire...
They have brand name tires like BF Goodrich, Bridgestone, Michellin among others. And yes, they will install even if you have an aftermarket wheel.

but seriously, i guess they have a change of policy lately...all you need to do is sign a waiver saying that you have an aftermarket wheel on your car.

Pat, How soon do you need the tires? I might have a set of 235/45/17s available. I say might because I'm buying a set of stock Evo IX wheels from a buddy of mine. He's on a trip right now and returns on March 4th. It wasn't clear if the tires were still on the wheels that he's selling (last time I saw them they were).
Anyway the wheels/tires were pulled off the car at 2,000 miles so they're mint.

+1. How much are you looking at spending? Also, what are the specs on your wheels (width and offset)? Tire rack carries the majority of the tires that everybody has mentioned with a few exceptions, however I just checked the 235/40's a there are not as many options available.

Bleh I don't wanna sign ****! LOL. I've done tires for a little bit and haven't scratched one, so wouldn't go there knowing if they mess up my rim(s) they aren't responsible. Cause if the installer scratches the rim it's the installers fault imo.
When I ordered my original tires from Costco, I did so online. But I had to enter my vehicle as an STI b/c it wouldn't give me any larger sizes for my LGT (I believe stock tires were 215/45/17).
They eventually figured out I didn't have an STI when they installed the tires but they didn't seem to care. I told them that was the only way I could have ordered a slightly larger set.
