ok I have a question... you know them STi rims why is it so heavy when on the rim it says forged? so im guessing the tires are the ones that makes the thing heavy....

STi rims are actually not that heavy, plus they're pretty tough. The RE070s they come with are pretty damned heavy!

Metals are composed of crystals. The Hammering or pressing of metal bends the crystals and makes theirstrucure less stable. But the heat used in forging enables new crystals to formin place of the deformed ones. Thisprocess is called recrystallization. In most cases, the new crystals are smaller and the metal is tougher then befor. For this reason, forging is used in manufacturing many metal products that must withstand great stress.

There are many different kinds of forging. Semi-solid forging (SSR), molten metal forging, cold forging, etc. Many metals are typically forged cold but iron and its alloys are almost always forged hot. Alloys that are amenable to precipitation hardening (such as most structural alloys of aluminium and titanium) can also be forged hot, then made strong once they achieve their final shape. The STI rims aren't heavy when compared to most rims, and they are very strong. That's not to say you can't find lighter, but you get what you pay for. Strong, light, cheap. Pick any two, all three will never happen.
