STI RA Gearset
Does anyone have this in their ride. I am getting this done soon and just wanted input on how much of a difference it makes and if you like them. I looked in the review section, but their was only 3 reviews on this. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

From what I've heard from people who do have them, they love the closer ratios, which are great from a performance standpoint. It helps w/acceleration and gives you a more usable powerband. The only downside is that because of those ratios, at freeway cruising speed, your motor will be revving pretty high. This will affect your gas mileage negatively. If you don't really care about that, then go for it!

Cant you get the final drive gear (5th) to be the same as the stock WRX one so it saves on the gas mileage. Dunno if the cell phone guru can get you that one.
The shift from 4th to 5th would be interesting.

Shane,
This is exactly how I feel with my gear set. I'm not a very agressive driver but I like the close ratios and the transfer of power to the wheels. Freeway driving isn't that great.

Shane,
I know you're not asking about the 6mt, but I can tell you a little about the short gearing.
It seems like the powerband is immediately shifted to the right. It's still a 'turbo' car with the standby-for-boost, but it really does seem like power is more on tap.
It's been a while since I've been able to drive it, but like mentioned above, in highway gear, I normally find that I'm cruising at ~3500rpms at 70mph.
To answer Hoppie's question; depending on who the distributor is you buy from, you can have the gearset designed any way you want. Dog 1-2 & syncro 3-5 or oem-sized 1-4 with a taller 5th.
