STi oil type

Hey, hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend. As I get closer to my 1000 mile break in, I will be changing the oil in my car. I plan on using synthetic. I know this has been discussed before, but I was got tired trying to find it in the previous posts. What are you guys running and what weight are you using. In my VW, when I switched to synthetic I found that the card did not run as strong, my mechanic/friend said that because of the "loose" way that my VR6 was put together as opposed to a "tight" way that a Honda motor is, it needed a thicker oil, so I started using Royal Purple 10W40 and everything was OK. Appreciate your input.

mobil 1 5w 30- your sti uses a different oil filter not like that of the wrx- its smaller with stronger casing. I think only the dealerships sell them.

I use Mobil 5w 30 and use the "080" not the "060" filter!

I've never had bad luck with Mobil 1 in any of my cars. Unfortunately no STi to test that theory on yet.

Oil filter

Isn't the oil filter for the STI and the RS the same? I bought the same Fram for my STI as I did for my RS I always thought they were small. If I am wrong let me know it went on fine so must work..

that explains it even better, the smaller oil filter housing also has less oil pressue drop due to the baffling affect of the the bigger filter case and element-

I do know that Redline Synthetic Oil is not recommended for use until over 3000 miles (in a new car)
