SOLO II returns!!!!
GET READY
just got this email from curtis
---------------------------------------------
Here’s the news you’ve all been waiting for… No more rumors, this is the real thing!
The Board of Directors for the Aloha Stadium Authority has granted SCCA Hawaii (3) trial events at the Lower Halawa Parking Lot (the same lot that we used back in the 80’s). We will send notice of the exact dates as soon as they are finalized. We anticipate the first trial race as soon as August or September.
The Board of Directors will be attending our first trial race. As such, there will be a strict “zero tolerance” policy in effect. It is imperative that this event goes perfectly to ensure the future of Solo at Aloha Stadium.
NO DRIFTING WILL BE ALLOWED… not in the slightest (even in fun runs). We are being watched at all times and any sign of danger/inappropriateness could cost us the site. We need everyone to put their best face and best driving forward to show the Board of Directors that we deserve to be here. We expect everyone to help us monitor the event and report any improper behavior immediately.
Get your cars ready (including me),
Curtis Lee

From today's Honolulu Advertiser:
CAR RACING
Stadium officials also approved a three-month trial period that allows the Sports Car Club of America to use the lower Halawa parking lot for slalom car racing. The sport features cars driving through a traffic-coned obstacle course at average speeds of 30 to 40 mph, according SCCA representative Curtis Lee.
Lee said slalom racing helps kids learn how to drive and maneuver their cars. The SCCA has been trying to find a venue for the sport since Hawai'i Raceway Park closed in April.
Some stadium officials feared racing cars would damage the parking lot surface, but Lee said Grace Pacific Corp., the company that recently repaved the east end parking lot at Aloha Stadium, has given assurances that the pavement can handle the race cars.
The races would not interfere with the popular swap meet, which uses the stadium parking lot that circles the stadium.
