So I have a run in with a cop....
On my way to work the other morning on my way to Schofied just past the Mililani exit a cop just got done issuing a ticket to someone when he started to merge back onto the freeway. at this point i am cruising at 60 in cruise control when the cop merges back in. so anyways he merges back into the right lane and i am cruising in the left. the cop ends up getting stuck behind a car in front of him with me to his left slowly passing the car in front of him....so slowly but surely i pass the car beside me (still doing 60) with the cop behind me after we both clear the car to our right this cop decides to pull up next to me a decides to beep his siren a couple of times and look at me like i am going to slow...now keep in mind he did not have his emergency lights on and was in no apparent hurry. so my question is am i damned if i speed and damned if i dont??
any HPD in i-club care to comment please?
to be honest a lot of cops in hawaii have lost my respect do to double standards i.e.
obvious illegal tint
speeding (with no emergency)
this is not to say that all cops in hawaii do this but it sure seems like a lot do
(if the shoe fits where it)

Anyway, I know what you mean by damned if we speed, damned if we don't. If we speed we may get a ticket. If we don't, *** hats tailgate us and get pissed. But you know what, who gives a fack if they get pissed? They won't be the ones paying for your ticket and your high insurance. That's what I always tell myself, "F*CK EM."
obvious illegal tint and recon really bugs me. i got pulled over for exhaust. officer said i need a recon for it. he was nice enough to let me go cuz its under my parents name. later i got to costco and see this durango, pretty loud duals no recon, and its a cop. and i only had an axle back, oh well...

in regards to having lights on - i know for a fact that cops do not always have their lights on when they are responding to a call. it's very easy for us to judge what they are up to---- but in reality we really don't know what they responding to... maybe they are abusing their priveldges..maybe not.
maybe the cop was chirping you because he felt that you were causing traffic? i mean that's not really an issue if you were going the speed limit- now u were in the left lane right? was traffic on the right passing you?

to bring up a similiar subject about cops i cant understand why HPD would waste good resources (cops) guarding a construction site when there are obvious crimes going on.....for example how about catching the people who stole my civic twice in one year and i still till this date have not heard anything of these crooks getting caught. good way to resource your cops honolulu!!

Cops at construction site are off duty and being payed by the contractors not taxpayer money.
edit: It is much cheaper for a contractor to pay for off-duty police than to pay a union laborer for "traffic control" service. In addition the cops get more respect from drivers than some guy in an orange vest w/ a flag.

Its tough on both sides,..
Being a cop is a thankless job,..they do put their lives on the line for us and respond to emergencies and have to deal with it. I guess its hard to recognize this when we only see cops as being the "authoritarians" and we say "Damn the Man!!!" when we are afraid that all they do is issue tickets to us,..
Cops are people too, some will be a$$holes, most are pretty cool and regular people, but just put yourself in their shoes sometimes and you'll realize that they are just doing their job,...Me, I just smile and say "Yes officer" and wait till they tell me what the problem is,..Most likely if you're courteous back they will let you go with a warning,..Beats a $$$ ticket, points, and higher insurance,..

LOL! The 300 pound polynesian dudes at my old company (Delta Construction) were used for heavy lifting because we were always short on equipment. Had the skinny filipino guys as flagmen and no one listened to them. Laborers back then cost almost $50/hr (wages plus tax, insurance and benefits) while off duty police was $20-$25/hr.
