So I have orders to head back to the East Coast
I'll be detaching from my boat here in early/mid December (I think the 12th) and will be heading to ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence) to report in January. The job is just what I wanted, as I'll be dealing with submarine intel / spec ops type stuff - very cool.
More importantly, I'll be able to get to some real tracks again! Woohoo!!
- I'll be about 4hr from VIR - http://www.submariner.org/thepno95/V...urse%20lap.mpg (10.9MB). My favorite track ever. Since the last time I've been there they've added some cross-overs that allow them to run the Grand Prix course, which is something like 4.3mi!
- About 90min from Summit Point (with 3 different tracks - I've only been on the main Summit Point Raceway). - http://www.submariner.org/thepno95/V...0with%20M3.mpg (8MB). Shorter and not quite as awesome as VIR, but still fun nonetheless.
- About 4-1/2hr from www.beaverun.com - never been there before, but it's supposed to be really nice.
- About 5-1/2hr from Watkins Glen - http://www.submariner.org/thepno95/V...ith%20fitz.mpg (11.1MB) . Realistically I probably won't go there much, if at all, as there are better tracks that are closer to "home".
Plus two more tracks in some stage of development - www.alpinesignature.com about 3hr away, and www.njmotorsportspark.com about 2-1/2hr away.
I look forward to introducing myself to a new bunch of Subaru drivers at the first auto-x event in March '06.

Well, the journey begins. I'm dropping my baby off at Horizon Lines Monday afternoon to be on the ship to California this Friday. Thus begins the cross-country trek. I'll be meeting the car in San Diego, then will be driving across country (Grand Canyon, uncle around Dallas, friends near Nashville, www.tailofthedragon.com in Virginia, friends near Annapolis, then to home in southeastern Connecticut). Should be a fun trip, I can't wait to actually drive somewhere.
I'll be leaving the island on the 12th.
