Wink Smooooth Clutch....R&D Automotive quality work.

I took my car in to have my clutch replaced at R&D yesterday...

I am running the ACT Streetlyte flywheel, which Davin and Jimi had re-surfaced, and the new Exedy Organic Stg1 clutch.

They make the install look easy...

Anyhow, just to give everyone an update on how this combo feels...if you want a quick reacting/revving engine...this is the way to go. I picked up both items from R&D. The lightened flywheel makes driving the car a lot of fun...it revs like a bike......as quickly as the rpm's go up, they come down.

It takes a bit to get use to the release though...Although this is my second go around with this clutch, I've still embarrassingly enough, stalled my car in traffic twice since yesterday.

Once you get going...it's a blast.

Another big thanks goes out to the guys at R&D!

Some thoughts...

Here are some thoughts that I've had...

The first time I had this combo on my car...it seemed I had to rev/slip my clutch to get going...I attribute this to a low rpm idle and the lightweight flywheel/Stg1 clutch.

My idle seemed a bit low and to keep from stalling my car, I had to slip the clutch...

I believe this eventually caused a shudder that worsened as the clutch aged...

Thanks to Burt mentioning to me the fact that the new firmware upgrade of Cobb's AccessPort V2 now allowed the users to adjust the RPM and Timing of our cars, I increased my idle +150rpm (you get a +_300rpm range to adjust and it allows you to set it for A/C and No A/C settings!!).

With my RPM's set to around 875/900 rpm's, the car seems to launch much better without having to rev/slip my clutch to get going...

I'll be driving it normally for the next 200-500mi as suggested by R&D...

That feature to adjust RPMs is a good feature to adjust for idle on the AP2..

I think that on LGTs, there seems to be a few threads on engine stalling while clutching in and/or in combo while braking...It happened to me just yesterday for no reason and this is after Jarrad made adjustments to my PDX base map...

The V2 is cool...

Hey Kevin,

The additional functions added to the AP V2 together with the race software you can download for it is awesome! Now I just need to learn how to tune my own car...easier said than done...

Talking It's those dang tunes...DOH! That Jarrad...

With all the tuners coming over here...stock clutches seem to not last nearly as long...

Even though my car isn't a huge monster by any means, it definitely has more hp/torque than a stock STI...Stg1 does me good. I don't think I could handle a stg2 or stg3 clutch as my daily driver...I'll stick to my 18g...

pm'd you^^^

Time to go Stg1 organic...the guys at R&D seem to prefer Exedy as the pedal pressure is noticeably less than the comparable ACT Heavy Duty clutch...both clutches have similar torque capacity ratings...

do you know where the Porsche and Jaguar/Land Rover dealers are on Ala Moana Blvd? Take the street between them (Cooke St.)

From Ala Moana Blvd, turn toward the mountain on Cooke St., go down one block to the 4-way stop...the building to your immediate left is R&D...you'll see a bunch of Subaru's, Evo's, and 4x4's in front.

It may look crowded, well it is most of time, but don't hesitate to stop in and ask questions...the guys there are friendly and will be glad to help you...

You may have to park on Cooke st. along the side...meter maids are pretty active so make sure you put some money in there.
