Smooooooooooke!!!

I just noticed that I have smoke coming from my exhaust. It's only started recently, and it's white in color. I'm thinking it's water or something possibly left over from the heavy rain. Can you suby guru's come up with a different idea of what the situation could be??? I lack the knowledge to formulate a good idea as to what the hell is going on.

Outside of water burning off or something I was thinking it was from switching from Mobil 1 over to royal purple, but I don't know!! *pulling hair*

I'm no mechanic myself, but one cause of white smoke is oil getting by your piston rings and burning in the combustion chamber. Let's hope it's not that. Oh and the white smoke, did you start it up like in the morning or in cold weather and just notice it?

yo Mike... don't be alarmed as you don't beat on your car to much. it could just be "blow by oil". remove your intercooler. do you have oil collecting in your throttle body? if so then it might be time for a catch can. check your turbo as well maybe there mgiht be excess oil there as well. a catch can collects all the excess oil that get recirculated back into your intake.

could be oil build up in your ic, check your y hose and throttle, if you find oil just clean it...like Jon said it could be just blow by...when starting the car at idle warming up, it's normal for it to smoke(moisture)...but everytime you stop at a light and go and you see smoke then you might have a build up...should be minor as this is what happend to me in the pass and Oil Catch Can solved my problem, and this was when i used to used mobil 5w30, switching to 10w30 was better for me...

it could be many things, but it sounds like this MIGHT be your problem....do more SEARCH and you should find some more answers....

Thanks guys, I think just to be on the safe side, I'll go get a catch can. I don't know if I want to switch to 10W30 if i'm moving to the nasty vegas heat, but I'll switch back to Mobil 1 on my next oil change. I should have never jumped to royal purple...................thanks again!!!

white smoke = water
blue smoke = oil
black smoke = fuel

What you are seeing is moisture evaporating. I am confident that it is not oil simply because of the color. This occurs often during initial startup when the car is cold. Cooler weather conditions will also make it more evident.

When my mkiv sits for a long time (i.e. overnight) and I start it up, I get a plume of blue smoke. This is because the valve stem seals are allowing oil to leak by. This is a known problem with this motor. The plume quickly dissipates because it is quickly burned off. So if you notice blue smoke that quickly burns off, you may have leaking stem seals.

yeah, heading to sin city in june. So I changed oil yesterday, went up to 10w30 synthetic, back to Mobil 1. I bought a oil catch and will have it put in soon. Most of the smoke is gone, but it doesn't hurt to have a few safety measures installed
