Shipping car to hawaii?

im being reassigned to hawaii in january and the air force is paying to ship my baby (04 sti) but i'd have to pay to ship my wifes car if we cant sell it. its a 1999 bmw 328i with only 35k miles and we still owe like 19 on it so i doubt we'd be able to sell it for what we owe. i've gotten a few shipping quotes ranging from $2000 - $3000 and its gonna be hard to save up that kind of money in a few months, does anybody know any good priced car shippers? any military guys pay to ship any cars to hawaii? any suggestions on what i should do? thanks.

I shipped my car with Horizon Lines a couple of weeks ago. $975 this includes your car being in an enclosed container and not left on the deck exposed to elements. Hope this helps you. Good Luck.

Oh yea

The driving to the west coast is the best. I shipped my BMW 325i from Germany to Hawaii. They paid for it. But it took almost 3 months to get to me. My father shipped both of his cars from Germany to Ft. Riley from Matson I believe. They but his Corvette and his 06 Mustang in two seperate Conex's type deals and shipped them. He spent about 2900. It all depends where you going, where you coming from and who you do it with.

GOOD LUCK.

Ship one of your car's early enough to get it once you get here. So you will not have to rent a car. Also, with the BMW you have to call the lending company to get a letter of policy to ship it outside the contential united states.

Hit me up for more questions.

Oh yea, Make sure you get insurance when you ship your car and ship your sti first. Cause you gonna need it for the I-club meets. Take off all the things they can steal.

Let me add my two cents on Matson. When we shipped over my '71 Mini they managed to smash it in less than 1/4 of a mile. ...then they tried to say my car had "soft brakes". The same soft brakes I drove around on for 2 years plus an autocross session plus a "Spring Fling" thing at HRP? Frickin monkeys. Thankfully we had a whole CD of before (and then "after") photos to show their insurance guy the next day. They didn't fight me on fixing the car - but that is the last time I will *ever* use their crap service. If I wanted some knuckle dragging monkey to wreck my car I could throw my keys to anyone at Aala park and let them drive it around.

...plus Horizon is all enclosed.

What did you end up getting? 3.0 R? Lucky!!!

+100 for Horizon Lines. They put it in a container guaranteed. A lot better than Matson who puts it in a big ugly rack that just sits on the deck for all the bird poo, and salt salt salt. Did I mention that you get a little salt on your car. Horizon all the way.
