Safety check, temporary permits?

Hey all,

New to the area! Moved to Oahu and been here for a month.

I have a FXT shipped from the mainland with a couple of mods. I've been trying to plan to move some things back to stock to pass the safety standards (sure different here). Mainly my suspension (STi takeoffs) and headlights (HID 4300Ks), which are going to take a while to get unless I can find a local source without buying brand new at a dealer. Don't want to fail inspection the first time around, this place seems to strict guidelines compared to the mainland.

I'm leaving soon for the mainland for the holidays, but my 30 day mark for registration is on Christmas/New Years timeframe.

Is there a way to get a temporary operating permit to drive the vehicle to inspection when I get back in January (since the 30 day mark will be up)? I couldn't find any information on the gov site.

just go fail the inspection. itll give you 30 days from the date of the fail to correct the issue. stay away from military inspection places though. way too strict

Yeah, the mil place on base gave the impression that I wasn't going to pass.

Doesn't seem like HNL has anything like a temporary operating permit, so failing and getting the 30-day is the only way.

Thanks!

also depends on the hids. if they cant see ballasts when they pop the hood youre good. my quad projector retrofit passes safety. and sti suspension should pass too.

I passed safety at the Firestone on Hickam my car is full JDM swapped with lots of mods but looks kinda stock...well except for the Sparco 330mm steering wheel. Passed no problems.
