Router is crapping out and I need to get a new one...any suggestions on which brand router to go with? Does it matter what brand? Any info would be helpful thanks...Btw I just came from bestbuy and they were out of the cisco e4200..that any good? Something else better? Man I gotta rank up in mw3!!! Lol!

Slickdeals just threw this out there for a Netgear WNDR3300: Daily Deals, 1 Sale A Day and I've been running an older Netgear N router for a while ( Newegg.com - Recertified: NETGEAR WNR834B-100NAR RangeMax Wireless-N Router IEEE 802.11b/g, IEEE 802.11n Draft ) and even set one up for an aunt. I haven't heard anything good about Cisco routers, but can't really say anything about them myself. D-Link should also be good, and there's that one Linksys that *everyone* has (Newegg.com - Linksys WRT54GL Wireless Broadband Router 802.11b/g up to 54Mbps/ Compatible with Open Source DD-WRT (not pre-load)).

Any chance you want to run DD-WRT or Tomato or some other sort of fancy aftermarket firmware?

Screw the router, just hack the firmware! seriously!! take my word for it! Im using DD-WRT. IDK if the first router is actually supporting DD-WRT but the second one does support it. Either one would be fine if both are supported.

After going through three Linksys routers with nothing but issues for years, I finally got a Belkin. No issues for months, love it!

I like Netgear. I have been rocking something similar to this

Extream Wireless N router. You can reserve a DHCP ( i think its called) for your xbox/ps3 and help keep speeds up. My roomy and I be running 2 xbox's at same time along with two laptops and two desktops and 3 iphones using the network I have minimal lag. i.e. 3 of 4 bars in CODBO

I have had the same Belkin for the past 5 years with no issues. So Belkin gets my vote

Brand name does come into effect... but the specs do too

What data speeds are coming in (what speed are you paying for)?
How far away are you normally from the router on your computer/console (upstairs/downstairs, through walls, distance ect)?

You can buy online a lot cheaper than going to best buy. You could try newegg, tigerdirect, & amazon if you can wait a couple days for the shipping.

edit... just seen you're on the island. I'd go to best buy, lol. Shipping probably takes longer than you want to wait.

If you're buying a router and play games get a 'N' class router, its the faster class and usually is much easier to open ports on.
