Does anyone know if they do the bounce test? When I did my civic years ago, they didn't care as long as I had my alignment papers and affadavits.

I know you don't need affadavits anymore, but I'm concerned about the bounce test. I just put in my h-techs with sti struts and I can barely bounce the front. You guys think they'll care about the bounce test?

i still dont see how their bounce test shows anything against saftey, iirc, i couldnt even bounce my stock sti suspension!

 

Yes, the stock STi won't even pass the bounce test. Doesn't it need about 2 inches of travel?

 

Be very cooperative and although your front end may not actually compress 2", they will probably just wave it off...if you have the right attitude...

Had a friend just do this last week...although they attempted to bounce the front, they couldn't but he still passed...

Couple tips:

1. Front License plate height (12" from ground to bottom of the plate minimum)
2. Secure everything (short ram or any other aftermarket hardware)
3. Have your alignment papers ready.
4. If you plan on having your recon sticker put on a plate, secure it on the bottom of your bumper to the right of your license plate prior to arriving...they don't like the vertical ones you attach to the side of your rear plate. If you don't already have the plate installed, they will stick the recon sticker on your bumper...then good luck getting that off...
5. Take off stickers on front and rear windows.
6. Have them include your aftermarket exhaust on the recon papers. I just put something generic like (STI Stainless Steel Exhaust)...covers pretty much anything I would and could put on.
7. They will do a tint test...make sure you are legal.
8. Take off all license plate covers...

alright, that's all I can think of...

heard from some that the cops are really cracking down on RECON lately...anything that looks dropped...if you don't have a RECON sticker...be ready to be stopped...

 

THis is good....don't forget your fog lights need to be a certain height from the ground (EVEN THE STOCK ONES...it is a "letter of the law" thing). Most people just borrow someone's fog covers or remove their fogs for the day.

ALSO, dress business casual (aloha shirt and slacks) and try to look professional...they will usually cut an "adult" more slack than the "punk kids". No offense to any punk kids

Oh and to answer the OP....they didn't bounce check my car.

 

damn i didn't know that the foglight height made a difference too. Does anyone know how high they need to be?

i tried to get my sticker too, the bottom of the fogs need to be at least 12" off the ground as well as the plates. they did bouce check my car and said it needs to travel one inch down and one back up.

 

don't make mention of it...

hmm...i just took measurements and i'm a little low. On stock wrx wheels

front license plate = under by 0.1 inches
fog lights = under by 0.5 inches

Do you guys think if I throw on the 17's (225/45/17) it'll raise me up enough to make it leagal?

 

i believe bigger rims are not supposed to make your car any taller, unless the overall diameter of the wheel and tire is larger than the original, but wouldnt that screw up your speed sensor??

 

If the guy was in a honery mood, he may fail you...most of us were off by about 1/2" or so, you can go to City Mill or where ever, go to the door hinge section, buy two short pieces of straight hinge about 2-3" long with holes drilled on both ends, 4 screws and nuts...and increase the height of your plate very easily and inexpensively...don't buy those kits from NAPA for like $15 or so...

Foglights, like someone said above, borrow some foglight covers from someone and cover them puppies up...

not sure their justifications for the foglights height requirements...too high is no good of course due to the blinding nature of the light dispersion pattern (yeah, everyone has been blinded by those monster trucks with foglights mounted on their bumper higher than most cars regular headlights), but too low??? RECON really is a silly waste of money, resources, and time for all of us...do it to stay out of trouble...

I would do everything in your power to pass RECON the first time...it is a pain to have to reschedule and go back in for something that could have been done the first time...good luck.
