In my opinion I like Motul the best and if I were to be running my car hard all the time i'd run that. Typically I only put Motul in during Auto-X season and during the offseason use the more normal oils.

I use Motul in my tranny and some other synthetic in my diff.

Where do you get Amsoil oil locally and wouldnt just changing oil every 3k miles be sufficient before an breakdown in visocity anways? I find this better than keeping in synthetic for a longer period of time.

Hrm, maybe I need to switch to german castrol at my next oil change. I'm using 0w30 because that's all walmart had at the time.

2) I wonder how the other Mobil products stack up. I personally run 10W-30 synthetic in my car, so I would be very interested in those results as well... they chose 5w-30 because it is the most commonly used. One could assume all weights perform the same

I have been on redline now for the last year (2 oil changes). Love it, and i only change oil every 8 months or so.

I am aware of what my manual says and the whole debate of brand and weight...

I am interested in finding out how much it costs to send your oil out for analysis. Something I might do to see how my engine is fairing, but it does not sound like a cheap procedure.
I believe it costs around $20, but i could be grossly incorrect.

wells 100% synthentic on the subaru's isnt really worth it since Subaru of America recommends that you change your oil at ever 3000 because of the Oil pickup filter can get clogged and with that TSB being out Amsoil doesnt recommend going over the 3000 marker as well until subaru can fix this problem.

on all my cars i use Amsoil 100% with their 1 year filters. the product last! their filters ARE strong! no cheap Fram here.

Royal purple is full of gimmicks i wouldnt use that if my life counted on it..... they use so much additives and they break down way to fast.... its pretty much regular oil with purple dye! lol that turns brown as soon as it heats up!

redline is also good

pm if u want amsoil i have a dealer ive been going to for years nobody can touch his prices cause hes #1 seller on the island

hmmmm i may have to give amsoil.............. wait you do mean full synthetic amsoil right cause i think i heard from a little bird the 2 stroke and regular oil is recycled product?? but if you mean full synthetic i wanna give it a shot cause even though you wouldnt use royal purple i have seen with my own eyes (not heard or read about it or went by some companies "lab" test) that it works the best out of the three oils ive run (in my vws...not a subie so it may differ ill have to see) and if your stating that amsoil is good then heck i gotta give em one try!! how much per qt.???

and holy crap chris!!!! every 8 months?? i feel like i have ocd now!! hahaha

amsoil oils last

• Normal Service(3) – Up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

• Severe Service(4) – Up to 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

with their Ea oil filter in the mix you dont need to change your oil for 1 year! dead serious but like i said on Subaru its a different story since Subaru of America has a TSB out on extended oil change intervals.

i personally go about 8000-10000 miles on my oil changes. ive seen some motors which the owner used amsoil for over 150k miles! since brand new after break-in ...the heads looked BRAND SPANKING NEW! no sludge build up none of that... no leaking valves/smoke....

some people say its just all hype but believe what you want. those were the same people who stood behind Mobil1 and look at them now....

subaru Amsoil filters is # EAO12

SUBARU TURBO SPECIAL MESSAGE:
Subaru has published Service Bulletin # 02-103-07 that identifies a factory design related problem with premature clogging of the oil mesh screen located inside the oiling system that supplies the turbo charger on all model turbo charged cars. A clogged screen will result in oil starvation and turbo charger failure. Subaru has reduced their recommended oil drain interval in half, as a solution, from 7,500 miles to 3,750 miles (3-3/4 months) and requires the oil mesh screen to be inspected, and possibly serviced, at every oil change. With this Subaru factory related design issue, AMSOIL INC. therefore must recommend customers follow the new Subaru oil change interval of 3,750 miles or 3-3/4 months until Subaru resolves this issue.

That's the exact same oil I use. The silver Amsoil bottle w/the red cap. Same weight too. Although recommended interval is 3,750 miles, I'll stick to 5k. I use the 5k interval for all my cars except my truck. For some reason, my truck has a super long interval. Strange.

BTW I use Valvoline Synth on my race Miata, 5w-40. I need the heavier weight due to some lifter tick I get when I run it hard at the Solo.
