Ran down by the police!

They confiscated my HID ballast today... more bad luck for the skipper..

I guess there was something going on with the DRL's and the HID's.. causing them to flash.. at 12:55 this afternoon i was pulled over.. Told to remove the "Strobe light box thingy".. and officer Silva took them away.. =(

they're not strobes..

I dont think i'll get them back.. officer Silva also yanked on the HID bulbs and broke the little clip that holds the H1 lights in..=( now my one headlight shoots up!...

kinda dissapointed.. i just installed them yesterday.. now i have HID bulbs.. and no Ballast.. bring me to a question.. Can I use any HID ballast? or do Ineed to purchase a whole new HID kit? please/thank you...

you may want to get a similar kit to what you had before. You may be able to use any balast as along as your using the 35watt setup or the matching 55 watt.

How did they take them away? I officer cannot pysically take any thing unless he feels that the evidence is in a potetial hazard to be destoryed or lost.

if you don't disconnect your DRL, then you hid lights will flicker, i dunno why but it does. once the drl is disconnected then it should be ok.

yeah, I don't think thats too legal. They cannot confiscate anything unless its illegal, and you aren't being put on trial so its not like they needed it as evidence.

That's messed up...I have to think that what he did to you is ILLEGAL.

Couldn't he have just ticketed you...had you disconnect them...then made you go to recon or something?

Instead it sounds like he went in your car and broke it (unless you asked/told him to help you take it off)...that's like in the movies when you see a cop bashing someone's brake lights.

I say turn the guy into internal affairs. Don't stand for his abuse of his authority!

I don't think it's legal to drive around immitating a police intercepto
r vehicle. It's in the Code book, that you can't have light that are like th cops. Also you can't use a siren while the car is in motion. I guess you need to disconnec the driving light then. Good Luck copper! "Bad Boys Bad Boys, What cha gonna do when the *** for you!"

Im not sure if I will end up doing anything about these two officers..

Today my Grandfather had a heart-attack @ the Landfill.. The Two responding officers were the two who confiscated my HIDs.. They tried saving him but were unsuccesful..

I dont know what to do now.. =(

Sorry to hear of your bad luck I agree with the others though that you should file some sort of complaint.
I send my blessings to your family!

Not sure about Hawaii law, but in Virginia if you have a radar detector they can take it out of the car on the spot, and it doesnt matter if they break something.

having "strobe" lights on the front of your car, not on a construction sight, is illegal and they have every right to take them because you are impersonating an officer. It was an accident, but if you did the install wrong its not there fault. I would still call and talk to them about it, but in all honesty they had the right to "fix" the situation.

I hope you can get a new setup and he didnt cause any real damage.

Its like a double jepardy though. If anything they should have wrote a fix-it ticket, because even though its illegal to have strobe lights isn't it also illegal to have no lights at all?
