Question: WRX Tension Bars vs. STi Tension Bars
I have an 04STI...
I did some searching but couldn't come up with anything...anyhow, today I went ahead and replaced my trunk brackets (the dang thing broke in several places where the tension bars came in contact with the bracket...weird.
I currently have a CF trunk with a STI Wing on and wanted to use WRX tension bars. When I went to install them, I couldn't get them to fit for the life of me...
When I placed them next to the STI tension bars...they seemed to be off by like 45 degree or so...
From what I've read and heard...they were suppose to be interchangeable...anyone have any similar experiences?
Thanks in advance...

I have no idea which bars you'll need to use...in my experience they're interchangeable.
I heard it isn't a good idea to mount a STi wing on a CF trunk...unless you have some kind of reinforced CF Trunk.
Either way, probably want to use 1 WRX and 1 STi one...may have to play with is based on the weight.

it's strange...I thought they were interchangeable as well...but the end with the sliding bar is straight on the WRX bar while it is tweaked 45 degrees or so on the STI bar...I'll have to take a look at a WRX trunk setup...
Chargespeed seems to be a pretty stout cf piece. I am running the Chargespeed CF hood with gas charged struts (not recommended for most CF Hoods) and do not need to use hood pins due to the construction...no problems what so ever.
The Trunk seems to be the same...
I have heard of people mixing the bars up as you suggested...if I can get it to fit...I'll try it out.
thanks,

Brent, from my personal experience, I have used the wrx tension bar with no problem as my 04 was wingless. Let me know if you need help.
Thanks

Hey Norris,
They just looked different...different angles etc...
I'm going to take the STI tension rods off tomorrow and mess with it again...it seems very strange.
Thanks for the offer...I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks for all the support...
Today was much better.
so, for those doing this...here is what is going on.
The STI Bars are thicker and the bars are slightly twisted about 45 degrees.
The WRX Bars are about half as thick, and are not twisted like the STI bars.
They both act as torsion bars though, meaning that their twisting action creates the "spring" effect.
Once I got in the trunk and started messing around, the WRX bars, although not pre-twisted, actually worked...once I preloaded them by twisting the bar positioning them in their perch.
The STI bar is way to thick to do this preloading...I'm sure now that the 45 degree twist was put there because it would take a gorilla to twist them the way I had to on the WRX bars.
The WRX bars work perfect for the CF trunk/STi Wing...it stays up nicely without launching anything if the trunk latch is released.
Again, thank you for all the comments.
