Question about Tic kets
Well monday, me and my cousin is going to pick up a car, but there has been tickets that was received from the previous owner of that car, and right now i'm a little afraid about if we transfer the registration over, does the tickets move over to us as well? i recently heard there was a law that it will be move over to the new owner regardless... i was just wodnering will i be liable of the tickets left behind the old owner? oh yeah and another thing, the credit union is going to be holding the certificate because he is going to be paying it off, thanks

depends on the type of ticket. if it was a parking ticket then it would be for the car and not the driver. i still don't think you will be held liable for them but call the dmv or county courthouse traffic violations bureau to make sure. L8R
i saw something on the news about this recently. i think if there are parking violations and such the new owner will be liable and they won't allow you to register it until everything is paid off. i think there is a link on the dmv website that will allow you to check the history of a vehicle.

Hmph that's the ghey.
"How to avoid registration woes
Before buying a used car, find out if it has a registration stopper. Information on vehicles registered in any of the state's four counties is available at www4.honolulu.gov/mvrtitleinq. You must have the vehicle's license number and the last four digits of the Vehicle Identification Number. Prospective buyers can also call the Motor Vehicle Information Processing Section at 532-4325." Excerpt from that article.

You can always talk to guys at the DMV, they might know a little more than me atleast, but like blake said: the ticket goes to the driver, cause once they run that persons licsence # all tickets and violation should appear... Thanks
