well tonight i got pulled over for speeding... which i wasn't.... cop followed me from the ahua cut off ewa bound all the way down moanalua and on to the h2 merge the pulls me over or thats what he told me. I knew he was behind me so i had my car on cruise control at about 60 which i thought would be alright. So the cop pulls me over and then says "do you know that the speed limit is 55mph" in my head i was like damn i was only doing 60 but, i said yes 55mph then he says "well you were doing about 75mph to 80mph" and im like damn couldn't have been, but i played it cool. I said sorry sir i wasn't paying attention. Then he pull this bull**** that i kinda corrected him on he says " well your spoiler is not stock and your exaughts isn't either, your out of recon regulations" i then reply in a calm voice "sir the spoiler comes from subaru its an OEM part (sti), and i told him as far as my research goes on recon, a car does not need a recon for putting on an exauhst, (this part i owe it all to the i-club forums) although there is a regulation on sound i think? Well he leaves comes back and tells me "your lucky i'm feeling liniet (sorry i dont know how to spell that word so if its wrong whatever), i'll just let you off with a warning" i was like thank god..... and thats that.... i think it was really just the stereotype of a streetracer that he was seeing you know -spoiler, exaughst, rims, etc.- well otay i'm out

 

Well as far as the speed is concerned you should take it to court and tell the judge that he never showed you hard proof (laser gun print out).

As far as the recon issue is concerned perhaps some of our HPD i-clubbers need to bring some Subaru brochures around the departments? I mean damn...these HPD guys are on the road so much you would assume they all see STis running around all day with the same wing.

ditto... I actually went in and the judge told me: "the laser was calibrated that day. The officer doesn't need to show you the laser print out"

I used to think that the proof had to be shown to the driver... I guess you're "guilty (by way of technology) until you prove yourself innocent" these days.


Now,... I'll be the first to admit that I 'do' speed,... but after that ticket,... I drive with my cruise control on anytime I have to drive on H1, H2 or H3 these days (although after that first post in this tread,... I wonder if even that will help)... You won't believe how many people (and what kinds of cars) 'speed' past me or tail me even when I have the cruise set @ 5-7 over the posted limit...

Be careful out there gang. Gas, Insurance ... all WAY too high to be asking for a ticket due to speeding...

I know exactly how you feel. The cops somehow manage to follow me whenever I go downtown or to Ewa because of the large spoiler located at my trunk. They're always trying to catch us ridin' dirty but they never do and I guess that's what pisses them off. They think, "He has a fast car and he is going to race on my freeway. I better follow him home and not pay any attention to anybodyelse." The next thing you know it a Kia driver is going down H1 at 80 MPH without a seatbelt, but they still decide that the Subaru is more of a threat than a dinky Kia. But what can you do except put the car on cruise control? Good thing you knew your recon rules because without that knowledge you would've been out of luck. You knowing your recon rules and showing that cop who's more knowledgable on the rules of the road shows that we are much more responsible than the so-called street racers.

Why not say you had the cruise on 60 the same way you explained about the wing? I would say it would be perfectly within your rights and he would know you were right . . .

Yup...not to mention they can still pull you over if they "pace" you. I was pulled over recently and paced...and I wasn't paying attention cause I was on the phone. I still wrote a letter and contested it saying that "I have doubt in the accuracy of the spedometer of the officer's patrol car, seeing as my car is stock and unmodified and that the officer's vehicle was a older cruiser and may have had variations in the spedometer". I doubt that will fly, but I gave it a shot...

 

most likely the officer will not bother to write his letter, so you'll win. If he does though, you can request a trial after that if you are unhappy with the outcome of the written contestingness thingy. Most likely the officer will not show up to the trial that time.

(they almost always show up to the first ones since its scheduled for their day off so they get paid overtime)

Ditch - from what I recall they have to get it verified so often...but you can play the speedo error car and probably get off. ...as long as you weren't being a total paynus.

whitmoboi - you did the right thing. Even though you didn't agree with what was going on you kept your cool. All that's going to happen when people get all bent out of shape when they're pulled over is that they're going to lose. It's the classic "Contempt of Cop". The cop feels threatened and gets the, "Don't they know who the hell I am?" complex going...and the next thing you know they will FIND stuff to write you tickets on.

Best course of action is like you did - just be polite, and if you really disagree with it, go to court (well, if you had gotten a ticket). In court you have a lot better chance than on the street where it's you vs them.

...and people wonder why I don't like big wings and hood scoops.

 

whitmoboi, i think i saw you driving up H2 going towards wahiawa the other day, at first i thought you were Tom (xfactor) but then i saw different rims and remembered that tom is wingless now. i was in a black 05 sti and there was a blue 06 sti with wrx wing following me, we were going town bound.

 

speaking of speeding, while playing ball in pearl city today I had the unfortunate honor of hearing 2 subies whipping past the park while a black mustang tried to play catch up........guys, sloooooooooow down!!
