PS3 or XBOX 360?

I've totally kept out of the nex-gen console wars, so I don't know much about either box. I'm currently running a PS2 and Wii (well, my son mostly), but I saw the XBOX 360 Arcade Edition for $199 and started thinking about grabbing one. Street Fighter IV is what really pushed me over the edge, I need something that can play that.

- I know the Arcade Edition has pretty meager storage compared to the other two XBOX offerings, do I really need that? The XBOX won't be online so I won't be able to download games or patches anyway, is the included storage enough for saved games, etc?

- Should I hold out, save up my pennies, wait for Xmas sale, etc in order to get PS3 instead? I was going to buy a PS3 a while back, but I got pissed when I found out it wouldn't play my old PS2 games. I figured if Sony was going to force me to keep my PS2 connected, then I had no reason to stay with them.

Any other advice or insights from the i-club gamers? Thanks.

Xbox360 without it being alone is a huge loss. Xbox Live is amazing, especially with SF4 because of its online match making. If you won't play online, get a PS3. If you do want online, get the Xbox. You can get either for cheap on Dell sometimes btw.

I got my Xbox 360 Arcade from them for 164.99 before tax. (Free Shipping). It has onboard flash so you can save most of your game files on it.

If your using this system on a Hi-Def screen, I'd go with PS3, simply because of the Blu-Ray capability.

looks like you need a 60gb ps3 which was the only ps3 that was fully backwards compatible with ps2 and ps1 games. this is the one that i have and i love it. i also love the fact that i dont have to pay extra money to go online like the 360. i have both systems and i play my ps3 more then the 360.

I have both, my playstation3 is a nice blueray player, and a paperweight, I like my 360 more, and the online is better too.

I want forza 3 to come out soon...

every time i want to pick up a ps3 for a game, all my friends have the game on their xbox 360's. there's never been a reason for me to get a ps3 since it came out. then again, my 360 is dead.. AGAIN.. possibly permanently

I have both. 360 has more games and is awesome online like everyone says. My PS3 used to collect alot of dust until I got a new TV that can handle 1080p. So now I watch alot of bluray movies and now that SF4 came out I gotta play that on PS3! Oh and littlebigplanet. =D

If you're a big time movie watcher and have a tv that will support 1080p get the ps3. I've heard sf4 online is good on it.

Personally I only have a 360 and love it, when it's working.

there was a theory posted awhile ago that does generally sums it up:

ps3: if you have no friends

wii: if you have friends

xbox: if you have online friends

but in a seriousness, i'd follow the game you like. i've been a ps1/2/3 fan only because of soul calibur, tekken, and final fantasy...and who can forget grand turismo.

Thanks for all the input, there doesn't seem to be a consensus - I guess I should have known better, this is like the Mac vs. PC discussion (though less heated). I really want a PS3, for the reason that Jin stated: GT and Tekken. It's just that the XBOX Arcade Edition is so cheap that I don't have to agonize about the price, just which console to buy.

I'm also still mad at Sony for making the current crop of PS3's incompatible with the old PS2 games - I'll have to have both consoles hooked up in case my son wants to play one of his PS2 games. Being able to hook up the PS3 and put the PS2 away would have been a plus. On top of that, I don't have a HD TV, so the Blu-Ray player is irrelevant.

I guess I'll wait 'til Xmas to see if Sony dives the price of the PS3 - if not, I'm sure the XBOX 360 won't be more expensive than it is now, I can always pick one up then.
