problem when filling up gas

Ok so earlier i went to the gas station to fill up. My car's gas was at the 1/4 mark. I put $40 which i knew was enough to to reach full tank. Then the pump stopped at only $25 and i was like wtf? As i left, i looked at the meter and it was only at the 3/4 mark. This has happened to me about 3 times now. I was wondering if any of u guys also have this problem or know what's wrong and how to fix it. Thanks.

dont you think that $45 is alot. when my car is 1/4, usually $25 dollars is enough to hit the full mark.

This is a widely documented problem. Check IWSTI and search fuel sender.

My car does it. What you have to do is start the car up and turn it off at least once and maybe more than that. Mine does this intermittently and I used to get upset until I found out what the problem is. Mine doesn't do it every fill up and I notice that if I fill up closer to 1/2 tank it's less likely to happen.

I haven't called the dealer yet. Once I found out the cause, I just live with it.

Does this mean that I'm a pervert, since I'm the only one laughing at Pat's comment.

Nope, still stock.

Is the tank actually full even if the meter says its 3/4 full?

more then likely, yes.

I have seen this before when a fuel pump was replaced and the level float was not installed back correctly, it will only register 3/4 of a tank.

its possible that your floater mech has gone bad, and why its happening.

good news! your low fuel light is on a different system and still functions correctly.
