Probably an obvious question....

AFAIK it's a 2002 STi with ~500 miles on it. Not sure if it's DCCD or anything. You can call 817 XXX XXXX (my cell) anytime, although if I don't answer for some reason, leave me a message.
How in the world can I guide this guy in figuring out which version transmission he has on his hands? I am going to give him a call, of course, but it's pretty late in Austin, TX.

$4400?

Also, I'm going to ask him if he will be sending me the driveshaft (although I might need one out of a 97 Legacy, though), the shifter, and the final drive. I'm finding that the 2002 STI has a 3.90 final drive.

1st 3.636
2nd 2.375
3rd 1.761
4th 1.346
5th 1.062
6th 0.842

I can't believe that he'd separate with a 2002 STI tranny for that price. I can't believe that I'd use some more OPM in order to buy this.

Stupid question, but a 2002 STI? JDM? Just curious.

Don't all STi's have DCCD? (I truly don't know)

Have you priced out the ring and pinion for your rear diff if it's not included?

If you go with the whole diff and axle assembly you'd need new rear hubs too...

Does this come with shifter? Mounts?

Here's a good idea of what Rallispec includes with their STi trannies:

If it sounds too good to be true... (Although $4k+ for a transmission isn't a good dream by any stretch of the imagination!)

Please help me out and take a look at this post.

For 1) I'm not paying as much as he's asking
2)It doesn't seem to have any data plates.
3)I really want this.
4)No shifter, trim, driveshaft, and maybe no DCCD. (Maybe has suretrac)

I spoke with him on the phone this morning and am about to send him a traveller's check.

1. How much are you paying?
2. Why doesn't it have data plates?
3. I would too, but I'd want to buy a house in Hawaii Kai for $100k too. I'd have to wonder what's wrong with it though.
4. Shifter, Trim, etc. no problem. Driveshaft you should be able to find or make. What about the diff. gears? If it's an STi trans. (which it has to be, to be a 6-speed right?) shouldn't it have a built in DCCD? Were there some STi's that didn't have DCCD?

I haven't studied up on this (because I knew the price of entry was too rich for me) so I am not sure on any of these points...

Anybody else look into the 6-speed as a viable alternative to replacing a borked trans with another USDM 5-speed?

By the way, Dave at Rallispec rocks.

No, not all of them. As a matter of fact, I'm understanding that the V7 (2000, which this one is a 2002), is the only one to be 6mt. Dave at Rallispec tells me that what I will need is the shifter and linkage, ring & pinion, and a driveshaft (from a Automatic WRX or maybe a 1997 Legacy would work.)

Sean, Mike, Richard; do y'all think that you could help me throw this in the car?

I posted the thread earlier, but here's a picture.

Oh yeah. I'm sending $4200

Couldn't find a 5mt from a USDM car?

I remember reading somewhere that while the 6mt is really stout, it slowed the car's drag strip performance down because of the extra shift...

I found the JDM 5mt almost as appealing, but figured that I'd like to try this one out for a change. I've only driven 2 6spd's. Dan's and the US Skyline we test drove.
