Perpetual Job thread?
I wanted to start this thread to help out some of the unemployed people(if any) or people looking for a different or better job (like me).
I'm looking to work at Pearl Harbor or Hickam in some type of computer networking. Not necessarily a "computer tech" as that is a bit to elementry and I'm "over-qualified" from what some employers have told me. However one thing that really holds me back is secret clearance. Can an individual get this done himself through some govt agency? Or must he bow down to the company that is going to higher him and let them do it?
Also how can I get my foot in the door over there in this area of work? I've heard of some people making pretty good money there on base but working for private/contract companies.
My resume is here Click me I think it's enough to interest some employer...

yes I'm looking to get into the NMCI project on ford island also, but I have yet to be contacted with a decent job there. Also my lack of secret clearence seems to holding me back too. I did some research to see if i could get secret clearence on my own, but the cost is high! About $10-13K, i guess this is why most companies are looking for employees that already posses clearence. I have a friend that is looking for a Win2k tech support analyst, he's willing to pay up 40-45K if anyone is interested email me at reginop@hotmail.com

Wow...
Does a freshly minted Windows 2000 MCSE give me any joy with that 2k support analyst gig?

Not trying to make a stupid remark here, but have you given any thought to the military?
Do a short gig in the MI or signal community in any service.
I never realized that it was $10k. I think they've done about 4 of those on me for various jobs.

About getting the security clearence, joining the military or having an employer pay for it is about the only way i see of getting one. Unless you're willing to fork over 10k to do it yourself.

About the Army: Almost ANYONE can get a SECRET in the army. Most of the weapons systems/equipment we use have at least some SECRET components in them, and anyone that does work on the -20 level or higher (that's just above joe-schmoe level for all you non-mil types) stuff. It takes a typical S-2 (security office) about two weeks to process the paperwork for a SECRET clearance, and that includes transit time for hardcopy stuff.
Best way to get a clearance? IMHO try to find a job at an MI unit for a local computer tech. I may know an MI unit looking for an IT guy. I'll ask. You may not start with a clearance, but if you do good work, they'll get you one. Plus, it's a GS job, not a GI job.

No promises, but I'll ask.

The resume has been updated
You know I didn't realize the amount of jobs available in the locations that I wanted to live in... Perhaps the Tech sector is picking up after all? Monster.com kicks bÜti!
