Passed the test
Passed the test
Well, curiousity got the best of me, so I went down to Waipahu to check out their last STI. Wanted to see how I would react and feel, while seeing the car in person. Would I have a sudden urge or itch, to trade in the rex? Well, I'm actually glad to say that I was able to walk away. While the STI is a super sweet ride, I still feel content with my current set of wheels. Don't get me wrong - that silver STI w/ gold rims was calling out to me. But for the first time in recent memory, I was able to fight off the temptation. One of these days, for sure, but no time soon.
Anyway, there was this kid (with his mommy) who was in negotiations at the time for the remaining STI.

Funny you mentioned that... Wes and I passed the test last night by subjecting ourselves to the 5-star Subaru blue STi that was out there on display.
I'd love to have it in my driveway, but I'm still stoked about my car.

Yessir,
Potential of the STI aside (and although I think that the potential is great) it's going to be a little bit of time, money, and learning before these cars are true 11 second monsters (maybe even 12 seconds).
Also, I don't know how quickly we'll be able to see the potential of the STI because many folks (Dave) will be too afraid to beat up on it, except for showing off on the highway.
On the other side of the spectrum, how much more potential could there be when the thing is almost perfect already.

I find it interesting how you look down upon a kid wanting to hook N2O up to his car. If I were 18 and just bought a Porsche, and I found Nitrous the most efficient and easy way to increase power, I'd definitely be looking into the possibility.
I conducted a personal poll of some recent or current WRX owners (remember, they were very much the novelty and fad just a little more than a year ago). These owners have taken their multi-thousand dollar purchases to a multitude of trackdays, soloII, and drag races. Without hesitation, all answered that they'd dog the **** out of the STI if they had decided to buy it.

Did anyone realize that the left the radio out for a reason, it's the same reason you still get the sh!tty Lanser DS dash in a EVO to cut cost. The car is all about performance nothing esle.
i gotta agree with mike..and I think by track he don't just mean drags, Shoot I will be very disapointed if I don't see a STI at auto-x soon. Plus, I'm willing to bet more than a few modded WRX's and GC8's can turn faster lap times at solo II than an STI.

You bet. Many of us who AutoX in WRXs get beat quite often by the RS folks (heck even a metro Geo once.
)
I don't expect the STi to improve my times and in fact I figure they will be worse initially until I get used to the car. I am just starting to feel very comfortable with my wagon and it's setup (the track time yesterday helping a lot).
Either way, you'll see at least one STi out at AutoX, but doubtful I will do 1/4 mile. My inexperience with launching a car would probably make for a so so time. I'll let the experts doing reviews (SCC, etc..) do the testing and use their numbers for bragging rights.

Just so everyone knows, I wasn't talking about the drag strip. Personally I only go to B.S. with people and I don't do that very often.

It's that kind of immature attitude that keeps me from buying the STi. "I'm gonna put NOSS in it and make sure a Civic can't beat me." If I was there, I would have whipped that kid to next tuesday. It's like the kids that came in to Waipahu after I got there. They looked at the STi, then walked out, then started to look and touch my car. They saw me go to my car earlier and didn't seem to give a **** that I was standing right there in the showroom. I was getting upset, but I didn't really care...they were idiots anyway.
I have to be honest guys. I don't see the big deal in drag racing. Subarus were never designed for drag racing in the first place. If Subaru actually wanted to make a RWD car, they would and that would suffice for it. Just slapping on a turbo doesn't make a car an instant drag- racing type of vehicle. Okay...some people like drag racing and boasting their car can do the quarter in so many second. I understand that. Then they come to Solo II and get their asses handed to them by N/A cars. I'll be the first to admit my RS can only run the quarter at about 15.4- 15.5 seconds. Oooo...no skin off my ***. It makes a bigger deal to me how I can drive the car. More importantly how I can use that knowledge and apply it to driving other cars.
The STi is NOT a drag racing car. It never was designed as one to begin with. It was designed with power and performance in mind. Anyone that does take their STi out to drag, or modifies it specifically for that purpose, is an idiot. Go ahead...talk **** about me...I don't care. This is my opinion. If you really want to know what an STi can do, learn how to drive it at the Driving School on May 31st.
In conclusion, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying anyone who drag races a Subaru is an idiot. It just goes back to what I heard before the WRX came out. "There will be a lot of Honda guys buying WRX's and doing to it just what they did with their Honda." All the guys that I've met at SCCA days and what not, I don't see that. It's just an opinion of other people who Mod and drag their cars. It those people who talk **** about low quarter mile times but don't know their own cars for crap. Some people are just stupid and that's how it is. I may not get the STi just because I don't want to be stuck in that group of people (Don't worry Dave and Tim...I don't classify you with those people...as long as I see Dave at SCCA soon
).
