paint/powder coat
Looking for a reputable and "fair" priced place to paint my rims. Called the 3 places that powder coat but trying to explore more options. The rims are 18's and I want white with purple flakes lmk if and where you guys got your rims done thanks.

That's Partially true. If you use the proper materials, and go to a well rounded powder coater, properly done rims should not become brittle and fail. I've been having wheels powdercoated for years not one failure.

well the problem is the heat needed to bond the powder to the rims. 350ish degrees could rearrange the actual metal molecules to make it harder, but more brittle. daily driving, you may not put more stress than a normal rim can handle, but i know for a fact that going off at SOW or BW is almost a guarantee busted wheel!

Your wheels see more abuse on the street than on the track (IMO, it is debatable).

I have DD'ed powdercoated wheels. I have tracked powdercoated wheels. I've never had a problem.

You've been pretty lucky.. there are been FEA done on powdercoated vs nonpowdercoated rims, and it's been proven they are weaker. if its a well made rim (forged or even well made alum) then it's probably still plenty strong. weak XXR or other generic rims would be mighty suspect.

That is also partially true. It depends on the powder you use. I had my CE28's redone in "mag blue," that powder had a bond temp of 250 Degrees. Troops in army tanks cruise at that temp. So I doubt that will hurt anything. And to fight the SOW or BW mention, any wheel can crack there. Brand new or not. Coated or not. I've seen unbendable 949 6ul's rip right off.

Debatable for sure, going off at 130mph is worse, but you'll have to screw up to do that. The roads in Hawaii are crappy as heck, so it's probably worse here.
