Costco got good prices,..used to be like $90, but I think recently it went up to like $100-$110,...Also, clean your terminals and battery clamps once in a while with wire brush and terminal cleaner spray, and use protectant spray if you got it,...
As for draining the battery, if you got stuff like brighter headlight bulbs, run fogs all the time, stereo, amps, or anything else that will suck up battery power, make sure you're getting more than 12.5 volts with the car running (13-14v is really good with the powers sources on) and these sources on,..
On my previous DSM, I got a 90 amp alternator compared to crappy 70 amp alt. OEM to be sure I got good recharging capabilities,...aftermarket even had a +100amp alt available,..Dont know what Subies have OEM, but Im sure there are more powerful ones you can get...

For the military types, I picked up a red top (Model 35, I think it's 800CCA) at the NEX for $99 just a couple weeks ago. I actually picked it up for the Mustang, not the Subaru. I did notice that there's a similar sized Model 75 that has the terminals reversed - maybe you got one that's opposite of our normal setup, wrexpert?
