Oh.. that's not too bad... that's pretty good. I'll check it out for sure! I love hawaii!
So far I have about 3 places to go for sure... anymore?
Also try Mitsuken, local style Japanese take out. Best to go there early in the morning, its usually very crowded during the lunch hours. Be sure to try the garlic chicken!
There is another place called Sugoi they have good food also, the garlic chicken there is about on par with Mitsuken.

Dang, how did this thread go on for two pages before I found it?! Geez Ken, you just coulda asked me in person
Here's my picks:
-Times Coffee Shop on Hamakua Drive in Kailua: BEST fried rice on the face of the planet, seriously!
-Rainbow Drive-In on Kapahulu St. A classic. Mixed plate broke da mouf! Walking distance from Waikiki if that's where you're staying.
-Yummy Korean Barbecue: don't waste your time at the one in International Marketplace. Go to one in Ala Moana or if you want a really good one, head out to Pearl Ridge. The stand-alone one on King St. kicks okole too!
-Shirokiya. Go to the top floor of this Japanese department store in Ala Moana. Get a bento. Go beach and enjoy!
-Ezogiku: tasty hiyashi chuuka ramen. Right on Kalakaua about a block down and across the street from Royal Hawai'ian Shopping Center.
-Grace's: 2 locations, one on Kapahulu, the other's on Young St. was it? Mochiko chicken that tastes so good you'll cry like a little pansy!
-Yanagi Sushi on Kapi'olani St. Great Japanese food. Hands down.
-Ryan's at Victoria Ward Centre: good local style fusion food.
-Dixie's BBQ at Ward Centre: if your inner redneck needs barbecue, this is the place to go! There's one more in Pearl City too.
-Kaka'ako Kitchen at Ward Centre: a more upscale take on the plate lunch. Some really unique items here!
-Gina's on Kapahulu, same plaza as Grace's. Kick-*** Korean barbecue, plate lunch style!
-The lu'au at the Polynesian Cultural Center in La'ie has tasty lu'au fare. Stick around for the Horizons night show afterwards for a display of tradtional dancing from all throughout Polynesia.
-Hee Hing on Kapahulu St. If your chinky side is callin' out, I'd say this is about as good as it gets for Chinese food on O'ahu. Of course, it's not Hong Kong or Bay Area caliber, but it's still nice when you need dim sum or nice plate of beef chow fun.
Uh lessee... is that it? It's all I can think of for now; I'll update with more if I can remember
Dammit Ken, I'm so jealous of you, going to Hawai'i! I'm stuck in stupid SF freezing my okole off and you get to go Hawai'i grrrr.... Well, I'll get even, I'll transer to UH Manoa for law school hmph!

Hawaii get plenny good places fo' grindz! If you feel like hitting the "hole-in-the-walls" pick an L & L and try the Curry Katsu plate, as far as chicken katsu goes, they got it down. Further down from Mitsuken on School Street is Kalihi Stop...ono local favorites, the best beef stew I've ever had is from that place. Gotta call first to see if they have it first, it is the best!!. They also have a large poke selection. Let us know when you get here for specific directions for the places you pick. Enjoy!!

Hey Doodoo... Guess what?? Even better! There's a Hawaiian place like 2 exits away from me on Apien Way pretty close to Home Town and Albertson, Big 5... it's a hawaiian BBQ place! it's pretty damn good and they give a hell of a lot more than L&L! You should check it out!!!
