Is online cheaper than buying tires here on island?

I'm going to be needing a replacement for my Azenis in the next 5k miles or so I'm thinking.

Is it cheaper to order some replacements (thinking of Kumho Ecstas or another set of Azenis) online or hit up one of the local shop (hypers/etc.)?

I got my Ecsta MX's from TireRack. They arrived around 7 p.m. on the 2nd day of shipping. You'll definitely find the prices they have INCLUDING shipping are cheaper than what is available here on island.

yeah tirerack. cheaper than anything here even with shipping. My Kumho Mxs were $525 shipped for 235/45/17. Locally the Kumho warehouse wanted $225/tire and they tried to convince me that Tirerack can't beat the price. Promptly told him that tirerack has always been cheaper. I should have gone back with the invoice.

Just a thought. How are you going to install the tires? Don't most local tire shops include installation with the tires you buy from them? This may inccur why online is cheaper than a balanced and installed tire is from a store.

go to costco $9/tire to mount and balance. Sears charges $12/tire. Most places here do or don't add on the cost of mounting and balancing. It just depends on how much they're *** raping you already.

Talking yet another wise idea from gdogg

has anyone tried this? get a printed out quote from someone like tire rack (with shipping) and take that to a local vendor to see if they can match it. . . i figure its worth a shot.

you can have tire rack ship the tires directly to eurosport, which tire rack displays them as an authorized tire installer.

I think they charged me like $3/tire to unmount and dispose. BTW you have to be a costco member to go there.

I did mine at Lex Brodie - one set of street tires, one set of R-compounds, both sets bought from Tire Rack. I've also had good luck getting stuff mounted at Sears. I think it was in the $80 range for mounting and balancing ($80 for each set of 4, that is).

Oh, and how big a difference can the pricing be? I bought Goodyear F1GS-D3s, 215/45-17, from Tire Rack - about $157 each shipped. Just for ****s and giggles I asked the Goodyear tire store just down Fort Weaver Rd from me - $292 per tire!!! I honestly asked the guy, "You're kidding, right?" Unbelievable.
