Ok...I have a dilemma...
I recieved a call from subaru today...they told me that the STi will be ready for sale within a month or two. Now heres my dilemma... 3 Months ago I bought the 03 WRX wagon, in the early stages of modding it, and was planning to go all out. Now I have the opportunity to pick up the STi, but naturally I would have to get rid of the 03 wagon. I can throw all my cash into the STi...and not have any cash to mod it over the next few years....or just keep the wagon and mod it too all hell.
I know most will say do what makes me happy....but both would make me happy. Spend 33k on STi and keep it stock or keep the 03 wagon and turn it into a beast.
What would you do????
-Mike

It would take almost or more what it costs for an STi to fix up your wagon and bring it on even territory. With that said, go with what you can afford.
Take a 25k wagon and another $4k in engine mods, $2k in suspension, $1k rims/tire.. Dont forget adding a 6 speed, and other cool features that the STi already has stock...
Bah get an STi

For performance alone, go with what teiva-boy said. The STi comes stock with what lots of work and MORE cash will cost on the WRX.
However, if you enjoy the upgrade process (A LOT) then keep the WRX and GO CRAZY.
I'd have a dilema, too. I think I would stay with the WRX. Of course, I have my "**** IT" days, too.

My plan is to continue with my WRX. I've got a buttload of money in it already, but fact is, I'm not done. Almost, but I want to round off the rough edges.
Then I'm thinking about getting a beater Volvo or Yugo and see if I can drop it into the 10's as a daily driver rally car formula one.
I hope to buy the 2005 or 2006 STI. I figure that it will still be fast by then.

The STi is only going to run around 13.6-13.8 in the quarter from what i heard. So how is that worthwhile, since i will have no more cash to mod it? Thats what i was thinking.....but I figure if i dump 6k into my car now...its still less than the STi...and my 1/4 mile times should be better than a stock STi.

A hopped up WRX vs. a STi?
No question in my book. Why?
Why did you buy your M3 vs. a 330ci?
Why does anybody buy a Z06 over a base C5?
Why the '03 Cobra over a GT?
When I was younger I thought it was cool that my '94 Mustang GT was as fast as a stock Porsche 911 Turbo for MUCH less. Now I only wish I had enough $ to buy the Porsche!
I could build a Mustang that will outperform a Ferarri F355... Would I, if I could afford the Ferrari? HELL NO!

There's a lot more to the STi than it's straight line performance, that's for sure!

.... and good luck in trying to sell your WRX for jack ....
... WRX's don't sell too well on this island. The one used one I know that got sold, ... was bought by someone who was moving from the mainland.

I absolutely disagree with this statement for the most part, but in this context I see what Mitch is trying to say.

I guess it comes down to money. When i bought the M3..I could afford to spend 50k+ on the car....but now 34k is pushing it. (relocating to hawaii this year costs ALOT more than i previously thought!)
Im not very familiar with the rex to be truthful..hense this posts topic. Yes I own one, but im not very familiar with its true potential (which is why i post and read these forums so much).
I am not looking to race my car...except for the occassional drags, so basically im trying to find out if a WRX can be built up to compete with a STi in all around performance, without spending an arm and a leg for mods. Insane performance is not what i really want..or I would not have sold my M3. However...I do want more than what a stock WRX has to offer.
Thanks for all the replys and suggestions....your helping me get though this and its appreciated.
