My brother Mike is going to be stationed out there in a few months following graduation at the Naval Academy, and wanted to get some practical information before arriving. He is planning on doing much surfing. The other thing he needs to know is what is the opinion on cell service, which one is the best for Oahu? Anyway, I am trying to convince him to register here just to say hey and meet some folks but we will see if he does. Thanks ya'll.

tom i have nextel..of course nothing can beat there DC (direct connect) but as for reception it sucks..i would have to say cingular is the best for reception as it catches everywere..from yokes to waiholei belive me i've tested it out with friends who have cingular..ive been with nextel since they first came out and really dont wanna give it up becuz i have so many friends with DC's which the minutes are free and i make my own ringtones..hehe.. but lately i've gotten tired of the ****ty reception and dropped calls so i'm more then likely going to switch to cingular within the next month or so..hope this helps

Cingular has been sucking recently. Nextel always sucked (other than DC). Sprint has the fastest broadband wireless data rates for now. IMHO CDMA is a superior technology to GSM.

so it looks like either T-Mobile/Verizon...He's thinking T-Mobile because of the satellite global coverage that he can use while overseas/on float. Any navy guys care to comment on that? I'm thinking Verizon because of the coverage, but I see his point.

Like pretty much everybody else here......Nextel sucks! My fiance has both Verizon (personal) and Mobi (work), and she loves both of them. She's a former Nextel customer and obviously much smarter than most of the guys here, since she moved on to better service. I'd have to say Verizon......she's very happy.
